So apparently I'm going to be on Channel 7 news tonight

Channel 7 just came to my office to film me for a story tonight after seeing my YouTube channel. They're doing a story on ... I dunno, something cycling-related ... it all happened pretty quickly.

Great. I got a call this morning asking if I knew the Duthie St Youtubist but I didn't. We went on to talk aabout the misunderstanding from cyclsits and drivers about when a bike lane is not a bike lane.

This also shows that citizen journalism, blogging ans sites like this one do get noticed.

I did not see the whole item on TV. Someone cycling in a bicycle lane, Ruddager talking, then a man saying, "People should calm down".

While having coffee at Henley Square on the AC river run, UniSA 'journalist' Theo approached for a story on cyclist vs motorist. He would not accept a good news story of AC anniversary. He said drivers complain because cyclists do not know road rules and cyclists do not cycle in bicycle lanes. I emailed Theo some facts and figures, e.g. the MUARC study with helmet cams that found when a bicycle-vehicle incident, the majority of drivers are at fault. I added the following at the end.

After meeting the journalist, I cycled into the City for another coffee with another cycling friend. In Rundle Street is a 24-hour bicycle lane, which is placed within range of opening car doors. It is not uncommon here for drivers to open car doors on cyclists, a breach of Australian Road Rules. Doorings are not trivial, have led to injury in Adelaide and a death in Melbourne. Then there are the drivers who pull out from the kerb, without checking for a cyclist in the bicycle lane, another breach of the Australian Road Rules. A driver did this to me, while I yelled and swerved to avoid injury. I stopped and she passed me, now using an iPhone, another breach of Australian Road Rules. So these bicycle lanes are hazardous for the cyclists who elect to use them. That is, when possible. This time three vehicles were illegally parked or stopped in this bicycle lane.

Actually today, I nearly doored by a truck and luckily It didn't hit since I was able to avoid it.
I am also hate vehicle that parked on operating bike lane, it is pretty dangerous for cyclist.

The most important thing, many driver doesn't know any road rules that concern about bicycle or maybe they just don't care at all.

Still remember one driver honking on one cyclist on cross between Greenhill rd and King William st just because cyclist starting slow.
I love how cyclist show his middle finger to the driver.

It's a problem at peak hours for sure, I ride both ways daily & you need to ride the righthand edge of the bike lane ready to move out...

Lots of mini trucks stopping & pulling out from the kerb without looking let alone indicating and plenty of doors pop open, but still much much safer than Unley.

Saw the story - they refered to you as "The Invisible Cyclist". Pretty gtood story and reasonably fair even down to the helmetless cyclist (kid on a bike) also just pulling out in front of you from the footpath. Unlike me you don't have the good looks for telly (joke) but you did a good job anyway. Wonder how many of those sunnies they will sell now with your endorsement. Well done.

Reminds me that USA defence has done research into how to make objects and people appear invisible. All they have to do is put their armed personnel on bicycles. So simple, wonder why they have not thought of it. :)
