Ride Summary:

February 27th 2011: Wilson Devo posts a discussion on AC re whether there is any interest in the Gawler area for cyclists wishing to ride in a bunch ride. (See photo gallery below).

March 5th 2011: Following a lukewarm response Wilson & yours truly meet, conduct a reccie ride and decide to post on AC Events the inaugural Gawler Wheelers Group Ride.

March 12th 2011: The first GW Group Ride is held with 9 riders participating.

Sept 10th 2011: We held our 6 month anniversary ride today with a record 43 riders turning up to help us celebrate this very special occasion. We warmly welcomed 3 newbies who joined us on their first GW ride: Troy, Darryl and Shane (see photo below).

We appropriately ventured down the same route that we rode on March 12th. The weather was fine, albeit blustery on the first leg down the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway. Many sub-groups formed based on preferred speed and the ride was filled with a sense of celebration and achievement.

The excitement continued back at Jaspers Café where the brand new Gawler Wheelers jerseys were distributed. Sneek peek of the new jerseys in the photo gallery below.

From humble beginnings Gawler Wheelers has evolved into a vibrant fun cycling group with new-comers always welcome. Many new friendships have formed via GW since March, and we aim to cater for cyclists of all abilities. Our numbers continue to increase each week and the riders come from both local areas and the metro area. Age of the riders varies from 20 yrs to 60+ yrs! I will let others talk more about the last 6 months as they reply to this post.

Thank you to all who ride with Gawler Wheelers…it is you who make GW what it is today. Thank you also to Angus and the wider AC community for your continued support and interest.

NEXT WEEK: We will hold two concurrent rides; a flat ride and a hills ride. Details will be posted on AC Events tomorrow. YOU are welcome to attend. Today's photo gallery follows below.

... and three cheers for Devo and Frank for all the work they put in.

Without which, there would be NO Gawler Wheelers !!!

+1 (+1 +1 : does that make it 3 cheers?)   :-)

A tremendous effort by Wilson Devo and Frank to make GW the wonderful group it is.  It's as much an honour as it is a whole bunch of fun to be a part of it.

Great ride to celebrate the first 6 months....thanks to Wilson Devo and Frank for making it all happen. The summer weather will see our numbers rise I am sure. Jaspers will need to extend their building by then!

The new jersey is most impressive and will make people check us out!! Will be good to see the group wearing them next time. I have to miss this week as Alistair the girls and myself are doing the 12km City to Bay "Fun Run" on Sunday and will need a rest on Saturday.

Again well done another wheelie well organised ride with a wheelie good group of cyclists , lots of wheelie good pics and wheelie well written post by Frank , I  had a great time as usual

LOL Did anybody else just develop a reading-lisp and read "wheelie well witten post"?

Nicely done Geoff :-D

No not me Juz...not sure what you mean???

PS...About to open a wheelie nice red (Maglieri 2005 Shiraz) to go with a wheelie nice home made lasagna....yum.

Thanks to all for the time and effort that goes into the club rides every Saturday. Especially Frank and Wilson for contribution every weekend, thanks guys.looking forward to our next 6 months of good weather and the Xmas show later in the year.HoHoHo.

Who is going to be Santa ???

Just a thought on the matter of Christmas. For the last 2 years Mark Matthew has organised an Adelaide Cyclists toy run. A group of people met in central Adelaide rode around the city dressed in Christmas gear and delivered a whole bunch of donated toys to a church in the city.

Perhaps Gawler Wheelers might consider something similar delivering to a local church, charity or hospital, probably as many as possible in Gawler Wheeler jerseys and maybe precede the pageant with a shorter than usual ride. A quick visit to the nominated charity and back to Jaspers. It would be really impressive given that you will probably have 100 plus members and 60 plus riding regularly.

count me in.Is a great idea !

Maybe no Santa, let the public focus on the cyclists doing something good and enjoying it, if you informed the local cops of what you are doing you might even get a blue flashing light escort.

Congratulations to All Gawler Wheelers members, a wonderful acheivement for everyone that rides and contributes in any way associated with the group,Kudos to Mark and Frank for having the vision and commitment to follow their dreams and make something special and enjoyable for so many riders of all abilities, Gawler Wheelers IMHO would have to be one of the best if not the best cycling group in the state, looking forward to many more enjoyable rides  with this remarkable group ! Cant wait to see us all out in our new jerseys this weekend. Cheers Richard
