Sincere condolences to family and friends of the cyclist who died this morning on Norton Summit Road

I heard on the radio this morning, and I've since seen a news report on AdelaideNow confirming, that a cyclist died this morning.  The report says that there was no other vehicle involved.   Please be careful out there people!  No doubt you will all join me in expressing sincere condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist.

Word is (via Angus K) that the cyclist suffered a heart attack. Regardless, I echo Joseph: sincere condolences to his/her family and 'significant others'... Sad indeed.
Perhaps we can integrate a memorial ride into our Cancer Voices SA ride this Sunday.
Another ghost bike as well?
the news site said that also, very unfortunate way to go.
My sincere condolences to the riders family.
Everyone - makes sense to get your health / heart checked before strenuous exercise. Condolences to the family
Just learnt from the Indaily InProspect, 30-Jul-2010 on page 1.
Cyclist dies
A cyclist has died after falling from his bike on Norton Summit Road at Teringie this morning. Police said no car was involved and the man’s death may not be included in the road toll.
Norton Summit Road remains closed between Ridgeland and Teringie Drive while emergency services are on the scene.
That's horrible, and something I witnessed first-hand on a BikeSA ride a few years ago, when a middle-aged bloke just ahead of me presumably had a mild heart attack, got off his bike while a couple of us were trying to help him, and had a massive one which killed him instantly.

I hope it doesn't sound flippant to say that I can think of many worse ways to go, though.
I have a workmate that lives at Blackwood who knows of 2 instances of riders he knew just dying on the Sheppards Hill road climb.
Personally I had a cardio stress test about 9 months ago and the cardioligist told me as long as i wear a HRM and obey my age limits ... I was under no personal risk.

If I recall correctly though, a more common risk if you have high colestrol you can have a chunk break free and cause a stroke.
My deepest condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.
It is very sad. Sympathy his his family and his riding friends.
taken from another forum - he was in his early 40's :(
I was on the Norton Summit climb as this happened Friday morning - my ascent was stopped by the road block. The policeman there informed me two cyclists were sprinting for the finish of the climb and one had a heart attack - very, very sad. My condolences to his family, friends and riding buddies. However, like Michael I can think of worse ways to go.......
Vaguely related comment. I bought one of these road id tags a few weeks ago.

Good service, quite cheap and quick delivery.
