Steve Hogg, the bike fitter, has just written a pretty comprehensive article on Selle SMP seats.  These are the ones with the big central cutout.

Good article. Didn't read through all of the Selle model descriptions but they were ancillary to the review.

I've had one of these saddles now for about 4 weeks (the base model Selle TRK) and I have expressed to some of my buddies at GW (and to their amusement) my immense satisfaction on how nicely the boys are cupped by my new saddle.

If you have balancing problems on a normal saddle, i.e. if you tend to sit to one side of your perineum, then the cutout resolves that issue for you and it also alleviates one of the causes of chaffing. Cell Bikes had these at $69 a few weeks back (black only) and at that they are bloody good value.

Thanks for pointing this out. Steve Hogg always writes good stuff, but those saddles with their droopy noses and high back's do look a little strange.

i have one of these its a selle smp extra in white,i found the area by your thighs too wide so its now for sale.cost me $100 sell for $ 50

I wouldn't mind trying that saddle out Colin.

just let me know if you want to come and try it pat

I'll ring you in the week and organise something, might test drive it on the muddies ride

I'll take it if patrick decides not to!

hey Colin, sorry for hi-jacking your thread....

Jeremy, Pat - my dad is thinking of selling the selle italia flight gel flow saddle that came with the slick as bike he gave to me....has been used approx 5 times and is just sitting in a cupboard at my place at the moment...let me know if you are interested and i'll get a price from him.

:)

Thanks Sam, but a Selle SMP is completely different from a Selle italia....I like the SMP's, so I'm going to stick with them ;)

It might be helpful here to offer some translation information. "Selle" is Italian for "saddle". So Selle SMP translates to SMP Saddles and Selle Italia translates to Italian Saddles - different manufacturers.

oopies - my bad!

Jeremy I tried the SMP and it didn't suit me, if you want it it's yours for the $50 I paid. I've sent you a PM
