I know this has been mentioned here before, but this annoyed me so much I have to add it again.
I was riding west along Anzac Highway between Morphett Road and Tapleys Hill Rd, sunday morning about 8.30. I was riding about 10 metres or so behind another guy, who waved his hand behind him indicating there was a car in the bike lane. But I could see there were no cars, but instead there were about 6 joggers running in the bike lane, they were single file and spread out over a few hundred metres, but they were not at all intersted in moving out of the way. Morons.
What is the law here - if there is a bike lane I am supposed to ride in it if possible, but what if there was heaps of traffic coming behind me. Where am I supposed to go?
I suspect the runners didn't see you matt. Probably too busy looking at their HRM computers and concentrating on their Strava segments and not watching where they were going.
Seeing as you have the right of way in the bicycle lane, you could always try stopping right there, when you see them coming, possibly on a bit of an angle, then they would have to be the ones to go out on the road to take the risks, rather than you.
Some fantastically hypocritical comments here! For a group of people that feel so marginalized by motorists you're a riot.
Perhaps we should get a crew to go ahead of you and make sure your path is completly clear of all anoying runners, cars, pot holes, rocks and sticks.
To Matt I'd say get over yourself mate.
@Darren. Maybe we could give the escort one of last years BUPA jerseys to wave, apparently theres plenty hanging in wardrobes unused.
Some AC members get upset when cyclists unknown to them are seen ignoring road rules, believing that it gives all cyclists a poor reputation. Even though there are more drivers 'in control of lethal weapons' who ignore road rules, to the detriment of cyclist safety. So why shouldn't runners illegally using bicycle lanes (and at times to the detriment of cyclist safety) momentarily give space to cyclists, to keep the goodwill of cyclists.
Darren, not objecting to runners in bike lanes, as long as considerate and give space to cyclists. Especially when cyclists hemmed in by overtaking traffic and a safety issue.
This discussion reminds me of another one from a while ago.
The bloke who started it took a photo of a couple of cyclists riding two a breast, he called them something along the line of "morons" and "fwits" and said "Its no wonder people hate cyclists."
I spoke to him in the same manner he referred to the riders and pointed out how much space there was for everyone. All the muppet had to do was change lanes.
He deleted the discussion.
