I'm considering buying a set of rollers.

I have never used them before, but I fancy trying them out, as I get bored using my exercise bike & I reckon they may be more of a challenge.

I have seen these on wiggle  http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-ghibli-parabolic-rollers/ and they seem quite cheap, but they do not have any resistance. Is this something that is a must have option, or is just using your gears good enough ?

Perhaps you may have a set of rollers sitting under your bed or in the shed that you don't use any more and want to get rid off ? Not that really noisy set though, as I have other family members that will kick me out into the cold back garden if there loud !

Well perhaps I may wait a week or two and ask you what you think of them !

Have you ever used rollers before ?

Did you get yours from wiggle ?

This roller did receive very good feed back.. I am also tempted as don't like hooking my bike into the trainer I just want to hop on and ride...

Just read your Lumpy, newbie, slowbie roadie.... story. Most enjoyable read. I even shared it on my facebook page :)

I know what you mean about setting my bike up on a trainer.  Never really liked the idea of the stress that might be putting on the frame....

thx..... not to mention wearing out the back tyre

rollers are fun !!!! intense workout mate

Hello Pete,

I recently borrowed a set of rollers and found them to be quite difficult at first.

They take a bit of practice.

I also found that an error in your technique is magnifiied tenfold.

For me, that meant discovering my rear wheel gradually moves to one side.

But the concentration and effort, plus the fact you are riding your bike, just not moving forward, makes them great fun.

I have a set from wiggle on the way, i thought the lip would be a good safety design.

I think they will come in very handy for keeping in shape for the Grand Slam series, especially the 200k GS 5....

I am currently using these ones from torpedo7

it would be interesting to see how aluminum rollers last compare to plastic rollers

Plenty of stacks during the first - second week, all part of the initiation ritual with those evil rollers - be warned
I just bought these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-v-arion-parabolic-inertial-rollers/ . The resistance can be adjusted on them. I have a trainer but get very bored on it and would only manage at the most an hour. Since getting the rollers I have already managed several 2hr stints and have only had them 2 weeks. They do take a fair bit of concentration to use. I am still using them between a door frame. I can't see myself getting back on the trainer for a while now I have these.

Hi Wayne,

I have looked at these ones  ( in your link ) and wondered why they are more that twice the cost of the ones without the adjustable resistance.

In your opinion, do you think this extra feature is worth the increased cost, or can this be varied enough just using the bike gears ?

I guess you could just use the gears, I could spin at 44 kms/hr or faster for the 2hrs with no resistance and about 32 kms/hr with the resistance set to full. I like my speed to be similar to that of when I am on the road so I find it better to have some resistance. I went for this roller because it takes the place of a trainer to a degree as well. I found the roller changes in feel the faster the wheels are turning. When peddling fast I found it bounced a bit also.  Hope this helps. Clear as mud.
I got mine from Chain reaction. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31918. They worked out cheaper and was rapt with speed of delivery.
