The idea of racing is new to me, but somewhat appealing, but is 45 ( years old ) to old to start ?

I live in the Northern Suburbs, and am thinking about trying my hand at this game, so I'm looking for a suitable club.

Not having raced before, I have no idea whats involved, so can someone explain an average race day, how often races are organised ? Are they flat, hilly or a mix, do you race in age / weight / speed categories etc. ???

Hot tip Pat, nothing says "racing newbie" louder than ginger leg warmers!

Well done Pat on taking the plunge!!! What race r u competing in tomorrow??? I have been toying wit the idea of road racing through the winter but think I will hold off, train, and compete in next summers crit series

Well not as planned. I got up early to pouring rain and a text from Paul, who was also trying racing for the first time, asking if I was still going.

I checked the BOM site and it looked like it should clear up around start time so Yes, I'll be there,.

Lots of discussion pre race, should the race go ahead or not? Yes was the answer, so bike out of the car, number pinned on the rain jacket, banana scoffed and the heavens opened.

Race cancelled. :( Ten minutes later the rain stops, the clouds break up and it all looks fine. By then I'm having a coffee with Paul and Baron and contemplating next weeks crit race.

I think the decision to cancel was the right one, at the time it was pouring down and didn't look like stopping. Half the field maybe wanted to race, half didn't. There would have been a lot of standing water on the road, poor visibility due to spray, and a fair number of branches and other stuff on the road.

So, like Pete Roberts, I'm still undefeated in a road race. ;)

LOL

We are in a very elite group Pat : -)
