Sad and amazing all at the same time from:

He crashes in that terrible one about 30Km out on stage 6 and gets back on and rides 10Km more!

He is suffering from a host of internal injuries: a ruptured spleen and kidney, a bruised lung and three broken ribs
Ouch! Reminds me of the time when O'Grady (if I remember correctly) crashed on a downhill section into the guard rail breaking lots of things and tries to remount and keep going. That was also a real OMG moment!
Yep those pros are a tuff bunch of athletes, they use the word "grueling" to describe professional cycling - I think we can soak up a little of that glory ;-)

+1.

at least he gets another one for free!
Serious injuries - should be in hospital.
Maybe didnt want to. Understandable - given the State's mandatory after-crash blood sample for anyone involved in a crash - to check for for drugs and alcohol.???

Poor Wout , sounds like he needs drugs now , he's still in a lot of pain .
Permalink Reply by heather on July 8, 2012 at 20:11 I am amazed at the cyclists with lesser injuries who keep going: a broken bone in the wrist, and a fixed dislocated shoulder that would still be tender. Didn't one finish the stage with a hairline fracture of the pelvis? Two years ago Cadell was riding with a broken elbow.
Riding with a broken spirit is the toughest gig.
