With Tony Abbott, Kevin Andrews and Michael Atkinson on the list, riding a bike doesn't seem to be much of a guide to worthwhile politicians :-(

Take your point. Prospect Council has persuaded cycling Patrick Conlon to ignore his own government's Cycling Strategy, and set a precedent of removing bicycle lanes from an arterial road. See Prospect BUG for info. I plan to write to many politicians, have selected appropriate ministers, and was thinking of adding cycling MPs to the list.

How about adding a list of cycling candidates for the SA 2010 elections? I can be number one on the list! I am the Greens candidate for Wright and cycle with a group based at Star Cycles in Elizabeth. I am also a member of the Cancer Voices SA team. Incidentally, Cancer Voices SA are always looking for members - particularly those who are paying to do the Coast to Coast on Sunday, March 14th. Membership of Cancer Voices SA is free and has significant benefits for members.

I can think of 3 more Greens candidates off the top of my head who cycle - Penny Wright, Jennifer Bonham and Jeremy Miller - and I guess LOTS of the Greens candidates cycle. Would be interesting to compare their numbers with the number of Labor/Liberal candidates who cycle... then Family First and Abort SA... Is there a corelation between political views and cycling activity?
Is cycling a political act? :-)

Arthur & Jeremy & all,
To reveal why I was seeking names of politicians, go to the Prospect BUG page and near the top, view the file Contact_Politicians_v2. I am asking ALL cyclists and climate change carers to write to state and federal politicians before 20 March. Contains politician names and emails, plus hints on what to write.

The SA Minister for Transport has agreed to remove a section of bicycle lanes on an arterial road. This is against his government's Cycling Strategy and a negative precedent for ALL who cycle in SA, including cycling tourists. It is also negative for ALL Australians re sustainable transport, climate change and peak oil.

Arthur, by all means adopt the cause for cyclists to be accepted as legitimate road users, which is what the SA Cycling Strategy states, but some politicians appear to have forgotten.

Hi Heather,
Please advise, step by step, how I get to the Prospect BUG page. I'm really new to this internet social networking stuff!

Adelaide Cyclists --> Hub --> Groups --> usually one then searches, but Prospect BUG for the moment has an icon at the top of this page.
Otherwise type the URL www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/bugprospect

Know what you mean. I am yet to familiarise myself with Facebook. Told I should, to get the message out that cyclists need to lobby to keep bicycle lanes and the Cycling Strategy intact. Also I have never used Twitter. Too busy with cycling advocacy.
