Just got a txt from a friend would reports quite a few cyclists being pulled up just south of Henley Square.  Anyone seen this or know what for? She wasnt sure... a group, plus individual cyclists have been stopped and spoken to... the reporter is unsure if notices are being issued....

Seems some sort of blitz is taking place.... Anyone have any further info?

Frank "gay" doesn't rub me, it is just so worn now that I find it cringeworthy. A bit like a child who has dicovered how to make the grown-ups laugh so does it over and over and................. That's fine if that is how you like to be perceived.

While I laughed initially, I am now cringing. A gay friend laughed initially but is now fuming.

While I'm at it; we are all very aware of the multiple meanings of some words in the English language, I get the impression that you would be astounded to hear the number of hours worked per week by some members of this site, you are not the only member who has run their own demanding business/businesses and some unfortunate members are unemployed or under-employed and find some of your comments about bike values offensive.

Having said all that, I find that your bike-related comments can be very useful and informative and you obviously have a genuine passion for cycling.

Perceive me anyway you like, I am who I am and say it how it is.
No need for your gay friend to fume, I have no agenda what so ever, never will, never have.
I understand very well how hard some folks work and hardship some may be exposed to, I had my own fair share, being adopted at age13 after being sold by my mother is just the start but I am where I am now cause of hard work.

People take offence too easily, I am currently helping a lady with her bike set up that I met at a cafe. We started talking after she said how terrible her crappy bike is, I just said that it's not the bike, her set up/fit sucks and she is carrying too much weight. She heard me out, put down her delicious cibo pastry and 4 weeks on now, is riding her bike properly as her crappy bike( her words) now fits her bio-mechanically speaking and she cut out all sugar, milk and snacks, dropped 11 kgs and thanked me for being frank!

Many folks on forums take offense when it's truly not needed, some are meant offensive by others for sure but don't extrapolate something that isn't there from what I say.
I get a kick out of helping people, it's how I roll!

In regards to bike values, and being astounded at some of the hours worked! No I would not be astounded, I do my hard yards and sure others do to, take my hat off to those that don't take anything for granted or bludge off the system.

Bike values! Well, don't take offence, as said, none ever intended, I just know what I like, what works and why.

Frank,

you seem like an intelligent person, so it is frustrating for me to have to spell this out for you. Using gay as a euphemism for bad or substandard is just perpetuating a negative stereotype of members of our community. There are thousands of other words in the immensely large English language that could be used without the potential for causing offence. If the point of you are tring to make with your communication is blurred by the insensitivity of its phrasing, then you have failed to be effective in your communication.  Calling yourself blunt is no excuse for being rude or insensitive. It is possible to call a spade a spade without offending people(or potentially offending people) It just takes a little effort. In an internet forum where your tone of voice is impossible to gauge, one must be very careful in what he/she writes. I'm sure you can understand this. Amongst your friends over a coffee, it is easier to be rude an insensitive all you like, there is less chance for misunderstanding and more chance for correct context to be judged.
Finally, you can't just say don't be offended by me. It is your responsibility as an adult to ensure you interact with others as such and do not cause the offense. It just takes a little pre-thought and  intelligence.

I think that is enough about me!
Let's get back to topic and I be more sensitive in my phrasing or alternatively a separate discussion could be started on my linguistic skills.
All taken on board!

yes, I'm still keen to find out just what the boys n girls in blue were up to. If there's a blitz on, we need to spread the word, especially if its on something that normally is let slide, like a rear reflector:(

Topic people, topic - start separate threads about BELLS and INAPPROPRIATE USE OF WORDS elsewhere. Now why the blitz at Henley Square ... anyone know?

I don't know and the 4 officers I spoke to last night/early this morning were not sure of it either but were aware of the many calls of complaints from people living in expensive apartments on the square. They find the containers or temporary showers a disgrace and are not afraid to voice their opinion and one of my friends is of the same opinion!
He is however not a cyclist!
If Sapol is now ordered to give infringement notices to people without bells, it's a sad state of affairs!

If we all used a Garmin every time we rode you could download the ride and prove you were not speeding!

if i get pulled over for speeding on my bike - there will be a PARTY !!

and we will pass the hat around Adelaide cyclists to pay your fine :)
