I am a bit disappointed to read some of the recent comments on the forums. I think some of the comments have been directed at the person and not the topic of discussion. Yes, we all make mistakes and in hindsight we would all probably do things differently but I don't think that doesn't give others the right to personally attack another AC member.
One of the things that I like about AC is the free flowing nature of the site and that it is not heavily moderated. I would hate to see this change or whole heap of rules put in place to control how we use the site.
Just my thoughts...that's all.

"Publish and be damned ! " .I see public forums as a big " sand pit ." You have a lot of good times ,and some bad times, but in the long run you learn a lot & it's good for your development .
Keep the sandpit free ,, play nice ,, & don't let the little bit of crap in it spoil your experience ....
Fair point. What Don mentions, is also known as "ad hominem" and "shoot the messenger" and "personal attacks"
The underlying rules of discussion - since Greek times of sophistry and rhetoric:
it is the point under discussion that matters - it should make no difference who makes that point.
Also, when someone gives information, we assume they are being honest and truthful
+1.
Permalink Reply by Specialised Roubaix on June 6, 2012 at 20:00 I was ready to have a week off this site in protest at the personal attacks being made on people but Don & Mike Brisco & others kind & considered approach has restored my trust.
Permalink Reply by Martin Turner on June 6, 2012 at 21:04 I've had a quick scan over the various threads and to be really frank....I can't see alot of flaming or personal attacks going on. This forum is actually one of the best I frequent (and two that I administer/moderate) in terms of bad behaviour and/or manners.
Permalink Reply by Mike Andy on June 6, 2012 at 21:17 Maybe I'm not reading the forum enough, but I too have not seen any of this personal attacks.
Lucky me?
Although sometimes I am guilty of "taking it personal attacks" - although I'm sure everyone does at some point.

Permalink Reply by Gus K on June 6, 2012 at 22:03 I suppose I have to make a comment. I know sometimes there are comments that are a bit out of line - perhaps considered more so because I, like many of you, know people personally and can understand where they are coming from in their comments. But on the internet now one knows you are a dog...
I was never a hardened forum person. I read them of course and was a member of a few but not a household name on them. So perhaps as this site has grown tended to manage/ moderate it as I would like it to be - which is not too tough or I've turned a blind eye perhaps but generally I think it is better mannered than other spaces because it is ultra local (what other forums meet up at 6am to ride then lunchtime for a meetup in one day) and most people tend to use their real names which changes the whole 'on the internet no one knows you're a dog' factor.
Do you think it needs to be more ruthlessly moderated? Do I need a big alert moderator button on the home somewhere? I don't read everything and I was only saying to BJ today how there are some dark corners of this site I don't go and who knows what goes on.
I hope it's self moderated in that you can tell me or click flag if there is a problem or as someone has today messaged me to tell me someone has been spamming you. He is now removed by the way.
We all make mistakes an get excited when Cadel wins because we are an 'in real life' community and we want to share. If this was a worldwide forum of pseudonyms of course it would be a rough place.
In the end it's nice people like Don (how's your daughter going by the way?) feel they can post this and we can talk it over.
