Adelaide Cyclists

Over the last while, i've noticed the patch work repairs on the bikeway just after you cross over Mt Osmond road heading toward Devil's Elbow. You'll recognise it, as all the black lines all over the bikeway, trying to fill in the cracks. Its also around the white center lines.

Its ok travelling up but when coming down there are a few sections which just scare me! Its probably because I think I may get my wheels caught at speed in the cracks that are obviously still there. Besides the ride being bumpy, I also stick rather close to the center to avoid it (which can be dangerous coming around the corner, if cyclists are coming the other way).

I know I should go slower down there, but is it my fault that the bikeway has been patched up and not repaired properly.

It is afterall one of the major routes used by cyclists to get to/from Crafers etc and one would hope that it was kept in good repair through that usage.

How can we suggest in a constructive way, to the powers to be, that it needs some better repair work done on it?

We need to get some photos I think to back up what we are saying. I was triggered to write this as someone else mentioned it at the bollards this morning. A lot of us cyclists I think are just used to it but as soon as we talk about it, everyone say "Yeah, I agree"

I don't like the quality of the surface at the last left hand hair-pin before Eagle on the Hill - it is very broken up.

Time for some work on one of "Adelaide's Favourite Hill Climbs".

Its hard enough climbing that section and you have to dodge everything there.. Hasn't a big boulder fallen down on the inside lane ?

It's called nature, the ground is dry and it cracks. Don't ride into them and you will be ok.

Building is one thing but maintenance is another matter entirely. Who is responsible? I suggest a call to the Office of Cycling and Walking in DTEI would be appropriate. Beyond Crafers on the climb up to Mount Lofty there is an opportunity to create a smooth verge suitable for cycling instead of the pebbled surface that forces cyclisst out into the traffic lane.

This should be a premium circuit back down through Ashton and Norton Summit to Magill. If the space was provided it would greatly increase hills riding- Safety in Numbers- and make car and truck drivers a lot happier too.

Just one more of hundreds of circumstances where investment is needed urgently.
