padded, but baggy riding shorts

i'm hoping to buy some riding shorts that are padded and fitted as an under layer, but then have a more 'standard' outer layer. i thought i saw some in my lbs late last year, but tonight there wasnt anything. i saw the full on board short style, that go down past the knee, but i'm hoping for something just above the knee.

 

does anyone know if what i'm after exists and is able to be bought locally- sthn subs preferable.

Hi Simon. You're after the 'Shy Shorts'! Last I looked Oxygen Cycles in McLaren Vale had a limited range. If you don't mind buying on the net, Ground Effects from Christchurch New Zealand probably do the best quality (that I've seen anyway).

A while back I saw these shorts advertised in a cycling magazine. Some call them 'shy shorts'. An alternative would be short cycling nix with ordinary baggy shorts over the top. The bottom layer of synthetic nix would dry quickly after washing. The top layer of cotton shorts would suffice with less laundering.

I would highly recommend the "Double Happys" by Ground Effect in NZ.  Great guys and a great product.  They are $119.

A cheaper option...

Anaconda at Mile End have Fluid "Flow Shorts" for $60

I bought some Oakley ones from Bicycle Express a number of years ago.  Still going strong. Great piece of kit.
