It was a nice morning for a cruise along the foreshore to Outer Harbour this morning apparently, so rather than let all the rich people on the Queen Mary have all the fun the Muddies headed off from a drizzly Hallett Cove at 7-30 for a cruise of our own.

Ten riders left Cafe Rimini for the bike path to Marino and were soon joined by Phil on his first Muddies ride. Phil had suffered a visit from the p******e fairy and had to call on his wife Michelle to pick him up and get him to the start line. He got there just after we left but found us just along the path, so with his wife and kids still in their jarmies in the car the tube was replaced and off we went. I wish my missus was so understanding ;)

With a tailwind pushing us along we made good time on the esplanade to Glenelg where we were joined by Paul. Paul is fairly new at this cycling caper and he phoned me during the week concerned he might not be up to the pace, I told him not to worry and I'd ride with him on what would be his longest ride to date.

Led by the Port Adelaide cyclo-sportif team of AVO, Baron and RD6 the peloton disappeared from view fairly quickly as myself and Paul made our way at a reasonable pace towards OH. The pace must have been pretty hot as the five man breakaway smashed the Strava segment Adelaide Shores sprint with Baron and Trent 1 and 2 on the leader board.

Richard Stevens joined us along the route passing the tailenders somewhere near Semaphore and chasing down the breakaway, we wouldn't see them again until we regrouped at OH which was packed with sight see-ers looking at the cruise liners. With people, cars and bikes everywhere my sprint finish had to be abandoned due to jay walkers, there's always next time.

After a brief stop for me and Paul, I reckon the others were there for quite some time getting cold waiting for us we turned and headed into the usual coastal headwind back south. It was hard work and te group splintered as we all went at our own pace in the trying conditions. A flurry od SMS messages saw a regroup at Cibo's for those who hadn't peeled off for various comittments en route and confirmed that Paul had got back to his car after completing his longest ride, stuffed and sore, was his description.

That left a group of six to ride uphill into the headwind back for a second coffee at Riminis.

It was a good ride, made harder by the wind and I have to say I have never seen so many bikes on the beach run, it was good to see.

Hopefully Matt B took some photos as I was too far back from the action to take anything worthwhile, and like Paul, I too am stuffed and sore.

Had a great ride today. Thanks to Baron, avo and Rob for letting me hang in with you guys today. My legs will feel it tomorrow tho. Thanks Pat for your continued dedication on organizing these rides. Was nice to have a flat ride for a change but looking forward to getting back into the hills soon.
Welcome to the new guys that came out today. Hope u enjoyed it
Great report Pat. Sounds like a cracking pace and will be some tired legs tonight! Would have been good to join you guys today, but half glad I didn't based on that pace and wind on the way home.

I was only too happy to help my husband out just wish my phone had not been on silent for 20mins oopps

Really enjoyed this ride with a difference, legs will start screaming at me tomorrow but right now the 5 seeds apple cider is doing the the trick

Thanks guys for helping out fixing the puncture, I had a good ride up to the harbour and am keen to do that again soon.

That peleton must have been flying past Adelaide shores,, with 4 over 50kph and 3more over 45kph. Good stuff.

Just been looking at Strava, that wasn't a bad social ride today. Longest distance so far for Paul and I think Phil. Adelaide shores ripped to shreds, AVO clocked up 175kms, Baron was clearly  taking it easy ahead of tomorrow's Crit and still knocking up PBs, as did Matt B and Scott.

Yep was certainly a work out, 2 PB's for me on time and a PB for distance. Checked my polar and nigh on 3Hrs with the HR in the optimal training zone, Dr will be happy with that , ave of 150bpm.....

Still waiting for the Jens factor to kick in, the legs still wont shut up.

FWIW - It was wet and cold today up in the hills.
Those noisy 3 that went past heading South just as you were about to leave was Richard S, (Snappy)Don & Rob.
Did a loop up Cox's Rd & back via Cherry Gardens / Blackwood.

How wet/cold? - damp enough to get water dripping off elbows in parts, cold enough to stop for jacket & arm warmers once up the top.

Good call on OH ;)

hahahah - we did hear the shout as you passed!

Well that was a great ride - a nice flat change of scenery for the Muddies!!

I left home to get a few ks in before Riminnnis as I had an early expiring leave pass.  It was wet...it was cold....welcome to an Adelaide Summer.

I gave up the rain jacket at Rimminiriis and other than a fine mist as we clipped in we avoided the wet weather.

Phil gave us an early rest break....and I believe he may have left his Garmin on as he was picked up and raced to the start by Michelle in the Rav 4......

It was a quick decent down the hill and a nice run to Glenelg with a tail wind.

Once we rounded the Pat it was on....the pain train hammered down and the front four or five disappeared!!

I was pretty chuffed when I got home and found my Adelaide Shores 'strava up' had me on the front page at 23rd.....However once Baron....AVO....Trent...RD6 and co. loaded up I had been relegated to 27th :(

Due to time pressures I had to turn back at Semaphore.

It was about the Largs roundabout I was considering pitching a tent and waiting for an AVO, Baron or RD6 wheel to suck back to the start.

It was a savage headwind!!  I ground on ....running about 15km p/h less than on the outbound leg.

I tried some of that backstreets for shelter and that didn't even help!!

I rounded the crest at Hallet Cove and looked in at Cafe Rimmininis half expecting to see the pain train had arrived back before me!!

To my relief they hadn't!  So I continued on Lonsdale highway and the path home.

Arriving at 10.34 I managed to sneak in close enough to the leave pass expiry of 10.30.

No rain in the Barossa on Saturday (Nice day for wine and cheese tasting), excellent day to be in a hot air balloon yesterday
