Mansell in a sling after cycling smash
May 25 (GMM) Nigel Mansell is F1's one-handed FIA race steward this weekend at Monaco.
The 1992 world champion walked into the Monte Carlo paddock with his arm in a sling.
What happened? "Broken collarbone," the former Ferrari, Williams and McLaren driver told Swiss newspaper Blick on Thursday.
"I fell off my bike."
Mansell, 58, is an avid road cyclist.

That will do it, much like Mark W did in Tasmania.
I think his sons are pretty keen cyclists too. BTW, no relation...
You are correct. Team UK Youth is backed by Mansell and contains his two sons. Also riding for the team is Maggy Bakstedt, the former pro cyclist and sometimes Eurosport commentator. See here

Could of sworn he had a permanent foot injury. Pretty sure i used to see him struggle to walk away from his car after a race.
He's broken is neck and back before.
Apparently he's supposed to be a quadraplegic.
Permalink Reply by Andrew M on May 26, 2012 at 16:18 Nige is a bit of a hypochondriac. It is well known in F1 circles that the limp after getting out the car was ... let's say exaggerated. Not necessarily consciously faking it, but showing everyone what a huge effort he'd just put in. And - yes - every crash resulted in smashed vertebrae and near-death, only for him to heroically return a week later.
Just saying. I love Mansell, one of F1's true heroes.

Yeah I seem to remember he used to claim that a previous injury would cause his foot to become numb during races, causing the limp, but somehow still allowing him to work the pedals (which I'd think would be difficult with a numb foot).
In collarbone related news, someone had their first ride this morning after 7 restless weeks away thanks to a busted wing. Felt both horrible & awesome at the same time! Shoulder has come through unscathed.
