New bike lanes on Grand Junction Rd
Riding home from work on Friday I noticed freshly painted bike lanes on Grand Junction Rd East of Sudholz and Walkleys Rds. I'd noticed the previous week that these lanes had been dotted in preparation for painting but it was good see them finished.
As I only get enjoy these lanes for a few hundred metres near St Paul's College I have no idea how far up Grand Junction they go. Do any of you know? Do they extend West beyond the lights at the Sudholz/Walkleys intersection?

Drove up there this evening. The bikelane starts at Hampstead road and continues intermittently beyond Nelson road. I can't really understand why it dissapears in the places that it does as the road seems wide enough and the blank spots are not near intersections.
The white dots have also appeared on Regency road from South road all the way up to Hampstead road, road works are also in progress from Prospect road to Main north where they appear to be narrowing median strips to accomadate the bike lanes.
Also heard a winge this morning on 891 from a cyclist/motorist about the reduction of 2 left turn lanes to one on Ward St into O'Connell to accomodate a new cycling lane. Sounds like our state authorities have developed a dose of white line fever.

Good to see that the Government has actually made a tough decision and actually widen a road to make room for the cycle lane rather than just painting a line where the ride was already wide enough anyway.

I noticed them too, although at this time of year I am in my car for that part of the journey (I know I'm soft, but I justify it on safety grounds - it more hazardous riding home in the dark). It is good to see more bike lanes go in even if this road is wide enough to be relatively safe even without the bike lane.

The road is very wide on that part of Grand Junction road and the bike lane is also wider than any others I've seen or used. Regardless of the width of the road I feel more comfortable if there is something between me and the cars even if it is only a white line.

Luke, I have not cycled there recently, but talking of wide bicycle lanes...
I often cycle Port Road near the ACC. Today I stopped to measure the bicycle lane at a yard attached to The South Australian Brewing Company. I took the measurement between an SA Water cover-lid and a street light. Here the bicycle lane is 1.55m wide! Most bicycle lanes I use are 1.4m wide. However, my local council is persuading DTEI to narrow bicycle lanes on Prospect Road from 1.4m to 1.2m. A retrograde step.
