Ride Summary
The GW weekend started last night with about 35 riders and friends attending our second Track Night at the Super-Drome. It was another great night and you will hear lot’s about it from the replies to this post. We must mention AC member Chewie who rode all the way from Marion on his fixie to attend. Then there was Barry who rode his mate’s 50 year old fixie! The bike was older than Barry!
During the evening riders were able to ride solo to experience track cycling. Super-Drome guru Eddie then facilitated a Team Pursuit just to get the competitive juices flowing. The night concluded with the super-fast Flying 200! The times for all of the riders will be posted later but we can tell you that Tony Brennan, who we featured in last week’s ride report, had the fastest time at just a fraction over 13.5 seconds! It was a fantastic night at the Track and we will be holding another one in a couple of months. To attend join the GW Group on AC now as there will be a limit on numbers!
Today we dedicated our Saturday group ride to our Mum’s, and to all of the Mum’s out there. Hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day tomorrow. Tell us something special about your mum, and feel free to also post a photo of her!
40 riders turned up on a cold morning to ride the scheduled 42km Beginners Hill route. The first, wind assisted, leg was down the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway. We then hit suburbia and on Curtis Road we had to deal with the traffic, road works and debris covered bike lanes! Not to worry as we were soon weaving our way up the long Yorketown Road ascent. Following a regroup stop we then prepared to tackle Cornishman’s Road. It is a deceiving road because as you enter it you see this fantastic very long gentle tree-lined descent….a joy to ride that leg.
However the joy comes to an abrupt end at the bottom as you look up to the short but steep Cornishman’s Hill. Everyone made it up the ascent alive! From there it was a glorious 10km downhill ride back to Gawler. We were back at Jasper’s by 10.00 and we all marvelled at the progress that riders have made since we last rode this route. Well done everyone, another sensational Gawler Wheelers weekend! More detail will be in the post replies.
Before we move onto next week's rides we would like to share this video with all of the Mum’s (and Dad’s). It is called “Who’s your favourite?”….hope it makes you smile.
NEXT WEEK: In view of last night’s track night today’s ride was a quickie 42kms. Next week we revert to two concurrent longer FLAT rides over 76kms and 110kms. Both go through the town of Mallala and full details will be posted on AC Events soon. YOU are welcome to attend. Today’s photo gallery follows:
