A hardy bunch of twelve riders braved the cold conditions this morning for the latest muddies ride. Clear skies and no wind made for fresh but ideal winter riding for the climb up chandlers Hill and through Clarendon and Blewiitt Springs.

Two minutes into the ride and Richard S had a visit from the fairy, he hadn't even had chance to warm up  as the start of the ride was all downhill.

So after a false start we set off again and headed for the 3km climb up Chandlers Hill Rd where it was my turn for a flat tyre, about halfway up the hill, so after replacing the tube and clicking through the gears for a dreaded hill start it was off again, my prediction of a quick ride and back by 10am was looking a bit dodgy by now.

Clarendon is down there, somewhere.

It's always cold descending into Clarendon, this morning was no exception, might be time for some Adelaide Cyclist winter kit I think.

After stopping for a couple of photos on Clarendon Rd i rejoin the tail end of the group for the gentle climb towards the Blewitt Springs Rd where the rest were waiting, and no doubt getting cold.

Regroup

With the sun trying to poke it's head through the light clouds the pace warmed up a bit through some great scenery as we headed towards McLaren Vale, once again chasing down the back of the group after a nature stop I spotted Boz coming the other way, Richard had picked up another flat and Boz was returning to help him.

Still cold.

This meant another delay and another regroup beore we hit McLaren Vale and the bike path back towards Hallett Cove. The early finish was definitely blown now aznd the group stretched out as the young bucks set off in search of Strava gold and the old farts made there way back for coffee and the best looking pancakes I've ever seen

Who was the lucky rider to choose those ?

Paul M also turned up at the cafe on a crappy old bike with no pedals, not sure how he rode it there. :P

Whilst having coffee the subject of Willunga Hill was mentioned with a couple of Willunga virgins in the group. I might do a Willunga ride in a fortnight, leaving Hallett Cove a little earlier than usual and picking up along the way at Becks and Seaford/Aldinga for those who live down that way.

Maybe it's time for a Mt Lofty wannabe Virgins ride?

No one "runs" the ride as such Paul, it's just a popular cycling route like Norton or OH that attracts sadists who like to feel pain  Ride up Bains, then do a repeat, and you'll be close to the sensation.

Great ride today, thanks Pat. Didn't get any PB's today but then hadn't ridden most of those Strava segments before.
I did manage Chandlers Hill Rd which is my first major climb so far.
We'll see how I go next time round.

Nice to see you've followed SSRC's lead in performance nutrition - yummy :-P

looked like a great ride though with the cold morning and the remains of a cold of my own I'm not too upset that I missed it. Blewitt springs area is really pretty - more Muddies rides through there.

Mt lofty next weekend would be good.

Looks like a good ride, now did you deliberately put the *** in , or did you make a spelling mistake in puncture ?

Don't want to tempt fate by mentioning her name Matt. You will probably cop one on your next ride ;)

ahhhhhh

The fairy who's name must not be mentioned.

I know that now, dont remember reading that in the rules.

Anyway the fairy didn't visit me  this morning, so maybe she's giving me a first and final warning.

Yes great ride there Patrick..  thanks for organising.  Thanks also to Boz (tube) and hanging back to keep me company whilst catching up, and Adam(co2)  and yourself Pat (photo). That would be my second and third puncture in 10 months!!  I will now always carry two spare tubes/canisters.  Never get complacent!.  I think my second puncture was a result of a pinched tube..ie.  two holes close to each on the tube..would this be corect???

Couple of great photo's of the scenery too!!! The descent into Clarendon with mist in the valleys was fantastic...albeit a tad cool.

Will def try to get to more of these rides pending the kids sporting times...oh and weather..

Great bunch to ride with.

Rich
