Unlucky for some, thirteen riders this morning headed towards Willunga and it's (in)famous hill. It was a bit quieter this week than it was last Saturday, the circus has left town, but the painted messages were still there to inspire us up the hill.

It was a slightly later start than planned, yours truly was up a bit late watching the tennis, I suspect a few others were too, but 11 riders left Cafe Rimini on a bright morning in relative cool, Matt B joined us a short way down the path, Baron would join us later.

We made good pace along the bike path heading south towards the end of the S.Exy, inspired by last weeks race perhaps. A short stop at Mclaren vale to refill the bidons was necessary as the temperature was steadily climbing and on to Willunga. With one rider starting to feel a bit flat and electing not to climb Willunga, and Matt B having to leave us earlier, eleven riders climbed the hill at their own pace to be met by Colin taking photos at the top.

The group split here, 4 descending Old Willunga Hill, the rest emulating the peloton last week and descending via Penneys Hill Rd before regrouping at the Mclaren Vale visitor centre for yet another bidon refill. It was now getting very warm, here we met up with Steven Ellison and his son, I suspect it won't be long before he is joining us on our group rides.

It was a fairly warm ride back to Rimini, via the Coast to Vines with Richard S and myself taking a sneaky short-cut as we were bringing up the rear after being TECs.I can't believe we rode straight past my beer fridge and didn't stop.

The iced coffee after the ride, and the copious amounts of cold water brought to the table never tasted better.

Nice report Pat.

We ( at Gawler Wheelers ) were talking about you this morning:

We have decided that next time you ride with us, WE are ALL going to wear our Knicks inside out.

I think you have set a new fashion status !

Thanks for the ride guys, esp Richard and Pat for helping me at the end and a special thanks to Mrs Pat for the ride.

Well done Matt in the heat :-)

Thx , just noticed I took 8 minutes off my segment time from the Tunnels to the end of the S.Exy. No wonder I felt knackered after that....

good work!  thats a PB to beat for next time!

Nice hot ride this morning....can't believe how much sweat kept dripping off my head.  PB up Willunga was nice too!!!  Thanks for the inspiration Pat.

Catch you all next time I can make it!

It was a bit like the race to witch mountain along the sexy this morning!!!  A cracking pace.

It was getting pretty warm by the time I hit the front door - so kudos to all who continued in the heat.

The best news was I was home on time so my leave pass may be re-stamped for next week!

Brilliant Matt will see you at Becks next week as Phil will be riding with you I think :-)
