With all of the attitude we usually get from other road users, I thought I would share a genuinely nice experience from my ride today....
Coming home from a small spin up Waterfall Gully, I was riding down Greenhill Road towards the city. A rather large truck was on the road, and we were rolling at about the same speed. At the intersection of Portrush Road, the lights turned red and both of us, still heading along Greenhill Road, had to stop. The truck was at the front of the queue, and the driver could clearly see me.
Looking ahead, both of us could see a couple of cars parked in the bike lane. So, with a brief toot of the horn, the driver of the truck got my attention. I turned to look at him, and he signaled that he wanted me to ride ahead of him on the road, which would mean I had a free lane to ride around the cars in the bike lane! I gave him a smile and a big thumbs up...and when the light turned green, thats exactly what happened. Further down the road, the truckie was more than happy to sit on my tail until he eventually turned left onto Fullarton Road!
This experience brought a big smile to my face....knowing that there are motorists out there who not only notice cyclists, but actually make an effort to help create a safe environment for us, is nice :)

Truckies are much better drivers then most car drivers ,, probably because they actually have to think about what they are doing on the road ..

I do think that truck drivers in the city just understand that there is no point getting upset about cyclists slowing them down because they go so slow and have to seemingly stop at every light sometimes they know they've just got to take it as it comes and chillout.

Permalink Reply by Dean Malden on August 7, 2012 at 22:35 What gets me with some Trucks out my way On Cormack Rd Wingfield-Cavan is that as they pass by, they are almost on the white line. With in seconds of passing they move out from the white line.
The other night i had a similar situation, where a Drive sat along side of me to protect me as i traveled towards Main Nth Raod on Montague at Mawson Lakes. At the lights he then told me he was protecting me as he thought it was scary through there.
I was really happy some ppls do this, give you time.
one night i had one W Anker fly down to pass me and all the traffic and then almost, how he didnt hit the cars that stop gets me but wow it was close.
Then Last night i seen a 3 car pile up on the out bound road Main Nth Road.
