Just got the update of works from my councillor about the improvements to the track.
the main thing is they will be removing the dog leg at Oakley Ave (finally) the bad thing is the Victoria St crossing may be closed for a long time because they are putting the Noarlunga train line underground in that spot.
also the Mike Turtur bikewaynow has up to 150 cyclist per hour using it and over 1500 cyclists in any one day. This makes it's use the highest of any in Adelaide.

Can you explain the Oakley Ave thing? Its nowhere near the MTB.
I found a PDF but it only mentions removing level-crossings (3 in North Adelaide, and one at Leader Street) and doesn't give any specifics about what will be put in place nor how you underground the freight line but keep the suburban rail lines above ground, but still remove level crossings.

Apparently they are going to make it easier for riders from Edwardstown to cross South Rd/Cross Rd and follow the train line until it touches the TRAM line. Most of the work will be done when they close the Noarlunga train line (to electrify) so we can all look forward to track closures from Jan to Jun. the good news will be no more waiting for the Noar train, only the freight and Belair trains.
Permalink Reply by Dahondude on July 4, 2012 at 12:19 Thanks. I saw an artists impression of the Vic Rd crossing and as you say cars/cyclists still have to wait for freight trains and the Belair line. It looks like just the Noarlunga Line being taken underground and under the freight line. If thats the case then are they just closing Leader Street crossing for good?
Wish they'd build a new tunnel under the rail lines to replace the old, leaky, stinky one at the Goodwood Train Station!
