This article appeared in Velonews recently. Its a story about the various levels of good that cycling and a cycling community can achieve. It also has a mental health aspect (surprise, surprise)!
All the best.

I hope he reaches his goals and has some fun in the meantime.
Permalink Reply by Keith Davies on July 3, 2012 at 8:54 I thought that I was big when I started, my 20kg loss seams trivial to this guy. Inspirational
Permalink Reply by rossmg on July 3, 2012 at 18:36 I would suggest a 20Kg loss to be bulk (pun intended) inspirational!
Permalink Reply by Simon Lownsborough on July 3, 2012 at 14:43 Wow, good on him, amazing.
And it just reaffirms what we all know, that cycling is one of the best activities.
Permalink Reply by rossmg on July 3, 2012 at 18:34 Wow! That is such positive stuff. And how tall is that guy? He seems to tower above the other cyclists! Oh 6'1" :-p
"Gagnon has one rule for those who ride with him: Kit up. This stems from his “Spandex Theory,” which postulates that in order to lose weight, he had to stop hiding."
The aspect of "not hiding any more" is something I had not thought of before. So my sometimes inital reaction of "Quelle horreur!" on seeing some MAMILs may have been uncaring and inappropriate.
(Even so, I won't be purchasing a Lycra kit.)
Permalink Reply by Andrew on July 5, 2012 at 0:37 I wouldn't worry David. I once swore that I would never wear lycra.
I now have cupboards full of the stuff, much of it ill-fitting!
Permalink Reply by Just another psycho-list on July 5, 2012 at 11:22 How inspirational! Good on him!
From a sad, lonely person, whose only "friend" was food, to this happy, healthier cyclist that he is today. He will just keep on getting fitter and healthier all the time as he keeps on cycling.
