Southern South Australia sits between the northern deserts and the deep Southern Ocean so in October it can be anything between 10C and 35C depending on your luck. It's more likely to trend towards the high twenties but variability's the key word here. I'd take a bit of cold weather gear just in case.

thank you again jilden for all your help.  Was hoping to get away without cold weather gear given it all has to be carried in the panniers.  However ...

You WILL need cold / wet weather gear, ( and sun cream too ! ), as Spring weather can be very unpredictable here in SA.

I rode the same trip in 2009 over 5 days on my cyclocross bike and had everything from warm sun to sleet fog and massive down pours 

1. Adelaide - Birdwood
2. Birdwood - Nuriootpa
3. Nuriootpa - Leasingham
4. Leasingham - Mokota Convservation Park
5. Mokota Convservation Park - Hallett

This was probably one of my best ever trips on a bike, and well worth doing. One of these days I will complete the full trail...
