We are cycling the Mawson trail from Adelaide to Clare in early October and have found this site really useful. Does anyone know what the weather is like in the Barossa in early October. Do we need carry cold weather gear - leggings, jackets etc. Thank you.

It's more likely to trend towards the high twenties but variability's the key word here. I'd take a bit of cold weather gear just in case.
thank you again jilden for all your help. Was hoping to get away without cold weather gear given it all has to be carried in the panniers. However ...

I rode the same trip in 2009 over 5 days on my cyclocross bike and had everything from warm sun to sleet fog and massive down pours
This was probably one of my best ever trips on a bike, and well worth doing. One of these days I will complete the full trail...
Here are a few photos of my trip:
Packed and ready to go. ( October 2009 )
Wet tracks near Kapunda
... and a taste of the MUD to come.
Typical trails along the way ( this one near Riverton I think )
Here is a pretty bridge along the Riesling Trail (part of the Mawson trail )
Camping at Mokota Convservation Park
A few water crossings required...
Crossing into Burra
Arriving at Hallett ( Last day of my holiday )
