Ride Summary
This beautiful St Patrick’s Day morning started with Reidy getting right into the Irish tradition of “Kiss me, I’m Irish”!....see photo below.
During the ride brief we all gave a big welcome to newbie John. He mentioned that he had never cycled with more than one person before, was not sure how he would go on a group ride and that if he could not keep up he would turn back. That’s not what GW is about! He stayed with us all the way and rode really well. He must have enjoyed the GW experience as he was one of the last to leave Jaspers Café after the ride. Well done John.
We also wished Reidy and Matthew all the best for the Ride4Repat Tour that they are participating in next week. It’s an epic 930km ride for a very worthwhile cause. Matthew & Reidy, we would love to hear how the prep has gone and your thoughts about the epic journey you are about to undertake. I am sure that they would appreciate a few words of encouragement from all AC and GW members. Look out also for a great interview with Reidy on the Channel Nine news on Sunday night. This morning’s ride can be best described as “just right”. Blessed with perfect weather we headed off to Freeling, which whilst only a gentle incline does require some effort. That’s the hardest leg on this route. The ideal conditions on the leg to Wasleys helped us get there in record time at speeds of well over 45kph. The final leg back to Gawler was just as exciting and most averaged over 30kph on the home leg.
The best part of the ride though for many was seeing the usual fast break-away group come to a screeching halt a few km’s from home due to one of the group having a flat. That meant that the rest of us could zoom past them and get back to Jaspers first for a change. Sorry guys…I couldn’t resist!!
NEXT WEEK: We will be holding our first TRI-RIDE. We will all ride together through the Barossa to Williamstown. From there riders will have the option of splitting off into three separate rides….depending on your preference and your pain threshold!! Full details will be posted on AC Events. Love reading your 'take' on the days riding, and other exploits, especially your training for the lead up to you're epic ride you and Reidy are undertaking.

Had every intention of getting there today but a few late night phone calls ruined that idea.
That should have been me getting some of that attention instead of Reidy too, I am the Irish Mick after all :(
Managed to get about 40 kms in this arvo so all is well with the world again (except for the Reidy bit).

Great ride report, Frank! Too bad I missed it, but I had some money to spend on a new bike - which looks very much like the Felt in the picture, but is a different model. ...I seriously missed you all on the Gawler-Kapunda Rd by about 10 minutes - you all must have had some speed up.
Great job, Terry - hopefully I'll be able to keep up with you next time but if you're gaining speed like that, maybe not!
Good luck to Reidy and Mathew! Great cause, go hard, boys.
I hope to join the Wheelers next week on my new wheels, if I can figure out a way to pick it up by then. It'll be interesting if that's my first ride - never ridden a real road bike before! In the meantime, this joke seemed appropriate (medical related) :)
An Irishman goes to the Doctor....
'Dactor, it's me ahrse. I'd loik ya ta teyhk a look, if ya woot'.
So the doctor gets him to drop his pants and takes a look.
'Incredible'he says, 'there is a $20 note lodged up here.'
Tentatively he eases the twenty out of the man's bottom, and then a $10 pound note appears.
'This is amazing!'exclaims the Doctor. ''What do you want me to do?'
'Well fur gadness sake teyhk it out, man! 'shrieks the patient.
The doctor pulls out the tenner and another twenty appears, and another and another and another, etc.....
Finally the last note comes out and no more appear.
'Ah Dactor, tank ya koindly, dat's moch batter. Just out of interest, how moch was in dare den?'
The Doctor counts the pile of cash and says '$1,990 exactly.'
'Ah, dat'd be roit,'' says the Irishman
'I knew I wasn't feeling two grand..'
