Ride Summary

On the last day of the financial year I found today’s GW ride quite taxing, mainly because I went to Gaucho’s for a birthday celebration last night and helped demolish 6 bottles of very nice red!

Later we have a message for you from the Tax Office, and we will also alert you to a possible new tax….the FART TAX.

On Wednesday night the Gawler Wheelers held a RPM night that was attended by 22 GW members. The session was put on for us by the Starplex Fitness Centre and for many it was the first time they had tried RPM. It was something different for us and it was a smash hit with several of those attending subsequently signing up for more RPM sessions. Thank you to Wilson Devo for organising it and to Starplex for putting on this free session just for the Gawler Wheelers.

Today 32 riders turned up for our group ride; an excellent turn-out considering the time of the year. Last year this time we were only getting 5-10 on our rides! GW regular Carmen brought along his brother Tom for his first GW ride. Welcome to the GW's Tom and nice riding today!! It was also nice to see Andrew back after a 7 week break recovering from a knee injury. He was one of the first to arrive…just itching to get back on the road.

The other big surprise today was Roger bringing along his daughter Ella for her first GW ride. Ella has recently been crowned South Australia’s best female triathlete of 2012! She is in the Australian national team and will shortly be heading off to NZ for the World Championships.  Here is a recent press article about Ella.

It was wonderful meeting you Ella! Thanks for joining the Gawler Wheelers today and we wish you all the very best in NZ!

The weather was quite acceptable at the start of the ride, not too cold and no rain in sight. All sorts of bikes were being ridden including  Mountain Bikes by Peter, Dale and Paul. The legs to Sandy Creek and Lyndoch saw some fast riding, and after a couple of regroups we got to Williamstown in no time. The rain started coming down as we headed off to the Warren Reservoir. However it was not too heavy and in fact it was quite enjoyable ..you know what I mean.

The rain continued all the way back to Sandy Creek, but then it just stopped, the sun came out and it was a fast dry ride back to Gawler. Just before Sandy Creek the TEC’s had a very close encounter with a large kangaroo and they will tell you more about that later. (More detail on the ride will also be posted by others.)

Back at Jaspers the sun was still shining. Everyone was chatting away over coffees and it was evident that those who came out to ride had enjoyed the experience. It was also lovely to see a few of the regulars who were unable to ride today pop in the say hi…..Peter, Warren and Dave.

Thank you to all those who attended the RPM session on Wednesday, and thanks also to all who rode with us today. It is YOU who make the  GW experience what it is.

NEXT WEEK: We will be holding one fairly easy group ride to Wasleys. Details will be posted on AC Events soon and YOU…yes YOU… are more than welcome to attend.

Before we move on to the photo gallery THE BOSS would like to pass on some advice from the Tax Office. This is a fantastic 2006 live performance by Bruce with the Seeger Sessions Band. ENJOY!

Pay me my money down
Pay me or go to jail”

PS: If I win the $30M X-Lotto this weekend I am buying everyone who replies to this ride report a brand new bike…just let me know what bike you want.

Had fun at the Rpm night , and a great ride today, until the puncture fairy got me :( , cheers to Wilson and Stefan for waiting  for me, great report Frank.  Hope to be out again soon.

Cheers George,,,,,glad you are enjoying the GW experience.

Hmmm. Very frustrating... I felt the cranks 'Give' as I pushed my way out of Lyndoch this morning, and by the time I got to Williamstown, they had become quite loose again. ( must be my awesome power ! )
I took it back to Corsa this morning, and they are going to replace the crank set this time...

I feel for you Pete, particularly as is a fairly new (expensive) bike. If it happens again mate they better replace the bike!.

I made good of my 'Short' ride yesterday, and took my Tricross out for a spin up Snake Gully. Even managed a PB going up Yorktown Rd. Had fun going up Snake Gully with my 11-23 cluster. I even managed to keep one gear spare.

I wasn't quite so lucky with the rain though, but at least my tricross got a good wash ...     :)

HI ALL.

I had to miss both the RPM night and today's ride due to illness.  Hopefully I have recovered well enough for next week to tackle the Freeling ride, which is one of my favorites.

That's no good Lee. We have missed you mate so hope you can make it next week. Get well soon.

Thanks Frank.

All was not lost though.  The solar people showed up an hour early to put my solar system on.  I am not sure I would have been able to get back home in time to meet them.

The told me to have a look at my power meter.  Was good to see it going backwards at a rapid rate.  Couldn't help thinking "stuff you ETSA" as I watched it go backwards lol

Missed him ????  WHAT THE ???? lmao......yer we love you Lee :)

Rolls eyes....

I can hear you Lee lol
