Promo sounds like they are about to criticise parent for cycling with child. Unsafe is the cry. Maybe, but how about improving roads and drivers, rather than just blaming the parent.

dont forget he states on his facebook page there was 4 'takes' on that collision till they got the last and best one for shock value, ....so Im guessing I need to be rammed 4 times, (some people say the trailer wasnt even attached to the bike-plausable since it was thrust away off it) -and my daughter is the same weight as a cone...they are not interested in presenting real facts about cyclists being killed by motorists, if anything drivers are much more alert, and respectful when I am more highly visible- because of the trailer!
Permalink Reply by Doddsy on September 3, 2012 at 15:52 The story was very much prompted by the lead up to this weeks election.
Maybe they were trying to fill the gap their declined story on bike couriers left.
This ones better anyway.

Permalink Reply by Richard on September 3, 2012 at 19:16 I didn't watch the whole story Doddsy, but was amused to see that the Lord Mayor appeared to be standing ON the cyclepath :)
I also noted that when Tan asked about infrastructure, he mentioned 'cycling friendly cities like Melbourne or overseas' - strange how wee little Adelaide didn't get a mention there (coz we don't deserve one).
Permalink Reply by Doddsy on September 3, 2012 at 23:19 ON the side of the cyclepath, not that it matters. We often share the cycleways with joggers and skateboarders. We'd be a bit precious if we thought it was a BIG DEAL.
Permalink Reply by Fred Rochler on September 3, 2012 at 17:03 You are definitely smart to ride on the pavement rather than the road. Just because it is legal to ride on the road doesn't mean it is clever - you'd have to be mad to put your kids in one of those things and cycle on the road. Not much joy in having a squashed kid and then saying 'but it's my legal right etc.'
thats right, VICTIM BLAMING! ...just like, women shouldnt wear short skirts, lest they be raped? what other restrictions to mobility should be imposed due to OTHERS actions? (5 years and not ONE ACCIDENT!)...just like when ACA pulled up beside me....'but she was 'asking for it?' youre free to deposit funds into my bank account to pay for peddle assist/improved brakes and gears on my dutch cargo bike, to make it more roadworthy for Sydney streets, and safer than the trailer Fred, no?..thought as much.
have you actually done any research and googled 'bike trailer accidents and deaths? why no 'shocking side on impact stills of cyclists?' because we dont matter?,even though the results would be EXACTLY THE SAME! (or creating hysteria - 'child endangerment propaganda-the only time I have ever felt a risk to my child on the streets came from ACA themselves).
I know the solution, according to Fred, lets ban all cyclist from our roads, as they are even less visible without their 7foot balinese flags, and therefore a danger unto themselves!
lastly, while you might not agree with the decisions I make for my family, (majority of people support me-including ACAs site), decisions that are all carefully weighed up against to risks and benifits, it does not give ANYONE licence to harass and then publically vilify me for no reason while I am minding my own business and obeying the law.By all means be entitled to your opinion,... dont you think I havent considered the same concerns also? I dont spend thousands on a cargo bike (or other bikes) to be 'trendy' as another poster on here suggested.
Permalink Reply by heather on September 4, 2012 at 20:40 Melea, like the box bike with reflective wheel trims. If you want to stand out even more, copy the basket on my rear rack with multiple reflectors and reflective tape. Also have reflective tape on opposite sides of the pedal cranks, so they 'flash' as I pedal. My earlier helmets had strips of reflective tape. My current helmet shape does not suit reflective strips but instead a Tioga Dual Eye red light and a very bright white light. At nighttime I have had all that, plus yellow rain paints and jacket, worn under a yellow vest with reflective strips, and still a driver did not see me. But then he did not see the red light that he drove through. (Melea, not picking because my posts support you.)
