Just on the off chance you know of anyone who may have witnessed my incident this afternoon, I thought I should post this here.
I was riding East on Cross Rd towards the hills at around noon, in the bike lane, and crossing the Duthy St intersection under green lights. Suddenly a car came flying past me and turned left onto Duthy across the front of me leaving me nowhere to go but into it. I was catapulted up into the air, kind of bounced off the boot and landed splat on the road. Pretty much straight up in the air and straight down again.
By the time I got my bearings and looked for the car it was screaming off at a rate of knots down Duthy too far away for me to see the number plate or even work out what model of car it was. All I can say is that it was a blue-green (aqua/teal?) coloured small sedan. Plenty of witnesses who all checked if I was OK, but none of them thought to get the rego of the car. And in the heat of all the wonderful assistance I received from other road users I didn't think to get any of their names and contact details! Dammit!
I've reported it to police and gone to see a doctor to get a formal record of injuries - fortunately I am OK besides a few scrapes and very sore rotator cuff (shoulder). My bike has twisted handle bars and the derailleur is a bit bent and angry, and a few other scrapes, but I am pretty sure my insurance will cover any damages there (hopefully some new bits and pieces).
I guess I thought this worth posting in case any of you heard anyone talking about this accident, and if they witnessed it, whether I might contact them to verify it - just in case the bastard that hit me gets caught.
Thanks!

Sadly ... or maybe not ... your average human being is going to be more concerned about the victim than the perpetrator. It's a bastard that such creatures can get away with a hit-and-run and a pity we can't help more. I'm glad though, that people took the trouble to see if you're okay and maybe you can take some comfort from that (rather than the negative of a gutless wonder who ran away)..
Would you feel better if I looked daggers at every car on my commute to work tomorrow? It's no trouble if you want me to.

Permalink Reply by heather on June 18, 2012 at 11:21 Adam, also check George Street, the extension of Duty Street, and where it meets Greenhill Road.
Permalink Reply by Tim B (the running man) on June 18, 2012 at 13:09 A bit of a long shot but when my wife had her car side swiped in her work car park by a bright yellow car, we kind of stalked the car park for a few weeks and examined every yellow car for damage. We found it and took photos, it was covered in silver paint, our car. Our insurance company took the details and sent a letter of demand to the owner, they have now taken legal action against the owner.
What you could do Adam is hang out at that intersection at the same time for a few days and see if you can spot the car, have a camera handy. You never know your luck as the driver is most probably a regular user of the intersection. Worth a try if you have the time.

Permalink Reply by Phil Crick on June 18, 2012 at 13:38 Adam, when you landed on the car I presume you left dents and/or scratches, whereabouts would we seem them if we spot a small green sedan? And what colour would any marks be left by you and your bike?
It might pay to go stand back at the junction next Sunday at around the same time - it may be a regular trip they make.
