I once came a 'clip out cropper' on the corner of King William Road and North Tce. In front of a Bus.
I went down like a sac of potatoes and managed to crack my knee cap on my cross bar.
right of passage for a road cyclist I guess, welcome to the brotherhood mate.Cnr Toorak and Chapel streets for me....lots of interested pedestrians LOLing:)
Traffic lights on Military Road at West Lakes. Solo ride, first day out on brand new bike, brand new shoes last Thursday. Unclipped in plenty of time, felt pretty cool, but was then taken out by a crosswind and went down on the right. Didn't even dare look to the people in the cars at the intersection. Funny how it all seemed to happen in slowmo...I've got a huge yellowing bruise under my knee.
A week after getting clips, got too confident on them riding to work and left the unclip too late at the corner of King William Street and Franklin St at 8.30am on a weekday. Went over in front of a heap of traffic and people at the pedestrian lights. Very embaressed! Hurt my wrist and was off the bike for a month, lucky not to break anything.
My last epic one was at the majors south road intersection.
I was approaching along Majors and the light turned green so I gunned it. Just as I was almost there I noticed the ambulance coming along South Rd heading towards Flinders with lights on.
I slammed on the skids and came to a halt right at the lights.
I was feeling pretty pleased for pulling up so quick....then it registered I was starting to tip right with my left foot unclipped.
I think we all know that 'timber' feeling as it all goes in slow motion.
so there I was....lying on the ground ...intersection packed...and an ambulance going slowly past under lights with the paramedic looking at me going WTF?
Got up...cursed my pedal and had a thorough going over the obvious mechanical issue I had.
Then I sat there for a whole sequence being sure not to make eye contact with the cars pulled up in all directions....
need to work on those trackstands!
Yes, the initiation must be followed.
I did three clip stacks (slow learner), when I first got my road bike in August last year.
Only did it once with cleats and straps about 30 years ago...never done it since then.
Watched a friend do it in front a bunch of motorcyclists outside the Meadows Bakery. I didnt bother stopping to see if he was ok...I just kept riding away from those bikers as fast as I could.
Riding home from the pub a few decades ago, I stopped at the lights.
I remember wondering why all the lights were tilting - then I hit the ground.
No cleats, no straps, I had just forgotten to put my feat down!
It was about 4:00 in the morning in Whyalla, so no one saw me.
That was you?? Hey if Id known Id have said hello.
On last week's TDU. My chain came off so I got off my bike and put my chain back on. Or so I thought. Without bothering to check that it was actually back on, I clipped in, realised that my chain wasn't on properly and didn't have time to unclip my left foot. Fell over in front of about 100 cyclists.
