Ride Summary
Juz was spot on the money. It was a very cold start to the Gawler Wheelers ride this morning. However we knew that it was going to be a fine day and we had an excellent turn-out of 33 riders.
Four newbies joined us today. They included well known AC member Dahondude, and Greg, both very experienced riders. John and Scott also joined us for their ever first group ride and we are sure they learned a lot from the experience. Welcome to all of the newbies, we look forward to seeing you on future rides and also to your comments about today’s GW adventure!
Michael, one of the GW regulars, celebrated his 45th birthday today…HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL!! Actually he nearly missed the start of the ride and we look forward to his full explanation as to why this was so…..(or should we ask his wife Cheryl???). It was also great to have GW regular “JB” back with us after a month off the bike due to illness. Welcome back JB…..and you better tell us about that bike you were riding today!! He purchased it off eBay for $370 and he was still towards the front of the pack for most of the ride.
We always love riding GW Route04 and today was no exception. The cheeky first 20km leg always is a mental game due to its length, never ending incline and the headwind which seems to always be there. What we love though is that we know that once we get to Freeling the hardest part of the ride is all over red rover!
By the time we got to Freeling the sun was out and we enjoyed a very sociable regroup stop whilst we waited for all of the riders. The real fun started on the leg to Wasleys. It had warmed up and the wind was in our favour resulting in a super-fast leg with speeds well over 35kph. The final leg back to Gawler was similar and it will be interesting to hear from the riders re individual total ave speeds for the ride.
Back at Jaspers it was a hive of activity as everyone discussed the ride. We were also very busy distributing the newly arrived GW Bibnicks and Knicks. It was really nice to see many non-riders drop in to Jaspers to say hi ...(John you had better tell us about your trip)
We saw a prime example today of what makes the Gawler Wheelers such a special group (in our view). Scott, being new to group riding, wore his jeans today for the ride. One of the group suggested that we all toss in a gold coin and give Scott a free Bibnicks…which we did in no time. Well done all and thanks to Greg for organizing it.
ANOTHER BRILLIANT AND MOST ENJOYABLE GW RIDE!! WE SHOULD PUT A RING ON IT!! More details will be posted on today’s ride over the next few days by those who participated so keep checking back to this report for the real juicy stuff!
NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two concurrent rides ….a HILLS ride and a FLAT ride. Details will be posted on AC Events soon and YOU are welcome to join in the fun.
BIRTHDAY BOY MICHAEL: Mate at significant expense we arranged for BEYONCE to send you a birthday greeting…you will see that later. In exchange we had to promise that we would give one of her biggest selling singles a plug on AC. This single has gone quadruple platinum having sold over 4 million copies, and the video has been viewed more that 186 million times world-wide. I am a huge fan…she is such a fabulous singer, dancer and live performer. ENJOY!

Tis me the guy who puts his HEART and Soul into all that he does :) To say I am deeply touched by the concerns and well wishes from you guys is to say the least helped me to keep a positive thinking to my stupid heart problem..
Must say though I knew exactly what I was asking of Lee to come over due to similar problems in the past. No heart attack was imminent but a stroke may have been on the cards IF I had left the problem to continue for more than 24hrs without medical treatment..Lee never asked questions he just did what he needed to do which was to help a buddy out in need.. Well anyhow I wont go into exactly how Lee helped me sat arvo cause thats all been written before.. THANKS BUDDY I OWE YOU ONE :)
So anyhow sitting in bed and all of a sudden that bloody bugga FRANK rings me.. What the ??? cant keep any secrets around in SA bike scene geezzzzzzz... Then he rings again this morning... then John Mills rings.. GOSH I think the whole of the Adelaide Bike scene knows I am in here LMAO.... thanks you two guys for ringing me.. lifted my spirits and at times my HR..Sorry Frank but thats what did happen..soo funny...
Anyhow second bout of meds work very well. infact to the extent where my heart decided to actually beat in unison with bottom and lower chambers.. Yehhh all fixed...good so pissed off home...Now just gotta take stupid meds for rest of my life to keep me going LOL..
Thanks to ALL of you guys for the well wishes. They certainly touched me HEART!!!!!!!!!!!! :) sorry just had to throw that in for a laff :)
Now as for Sat ride ? Sorry it was mostly a BLURR to me... must have been the BLOODY BLISTERING PACE we were riding at from Freeling to Jaspers. FARRRRRRRRRR out.. never gone consitantly soo hard and fast before..Carl and Mark you guys are machines geezuuuussssss.... Mark I hope you replaced that totally stuffed tyre.. and Carl I hope you have been rid of your nasty nose dribbling coughing annoying throat bug....Seriously I tell you not,, I doubt if even MR WILSONNNNNNN could have kept up the pace the 3 Amigos were putting in...35-55 for most of Freeling to Jaspers..
Seriously great ride hey? eventful, painful and but ENJOYABLE..... GOTTA LOVE CYCLING :) :)
