I caught and passed another cyclist today!
- I wasn't on my electric-assist bike.
- The cyclist wasn't a child.
- The cyclist wasn't really old.
- The cyclist hadn't broken down.
They were riding a MTB on the bike path that leads through Sheidow Park to the Veloway. They were even dressed for cycling!
Probably some poor bugger on his first cycle after a heart bypass - but I don't care!
I caught and passed another cyclist today!
I'm very excited.

Permalink Reply by hozozco on February 2, 2011 at 5:15 Hi Heather
I only race against myself thanks Heather. I didn't speed up to pass the cyclist, I just happened to have a faster speed! My personal race is against the high blood pressure and cardiac disease the my family has the genes for.
'Cargo of 4 children' - that would slow them down a bit. I just read your post - I'd love to have a nice box bike, but very few have enough gears for the veloway (for me anyway). I also don't really need one, which is a factor when it comes to negotiating with my Minister for Finance (wife).

Ou....
Can we please have a cargo bike race? Time bonuses for extra weight.
Minimum weight of bike and load - 40 kg.
Permalink Reply by hozozco on February 2, 2011 at 10:38 I think a cargo bike race would be a hoot.
Perhaps we could get sponsorship from Coopers and carry slabs of beer? There is a video on YouTube of someone carrying 400lb of bananas on a Yuba! Perhaps a capacity competition as well (how many slabs can you carry?).

Permalink Reply by Darren Bosanko on February 2, 2011 at 9:26 I remember when I first got back into cycling and was doing the Glenelg/Outer Harbor loop. I was coming back along Military Road and this old guy with a beer gut bigger than mine (at the time), on a mountain bike, with a crate on the back (with what I think were cans in it) blasted by me....I remember thinking to myself "I mustn't ride this slow again!".
Needless to say I haven't let any mountain bikes with crates full of cans on the back pass me ever again....
Permalink Reply by Simon Lownsborough on February 2, 2011 at 21:15 Oh I hear you Darren. If nothing else, cycling teaches you humility. And respect for the old guy/young kid/heavy looking mountain bike. My third ride up norton summit I was so chuffed with myself, doing about 13kph, and some grey haired guy passed my like I was barely moving.
A few bends later some kid (13?) did the same. He just danced up the hill like Contador.
Oh well……
