Ride Summary
After the wettest week in over 10 years the rain was definitely gone this morning!!
Whilst there was no rain it was a cold 5 degrees that greeted the 26 riders this morning who arrived for the Gawler Wheelers ride. However, I think that everyone was just glad that that they were finally able to ride without getting wet!
It was great to have two newbies along; welcome to Ray and Troy. Ray normally rides with the PALS Group at Mawson Lakes however as the number of riders there are low at this time of the year he has defected to the Gawler Wheelers….BRAVO RAY!
11 of the group rode the Beginner’s Hill route this morning. An enjoyable ride down the SOB, onto Curtis Rd, up Yorketown Road, into One Tree Hill and back to Gawler. The major talking point on this ride was about Peter who was riding a MTB due to his road bike being out of action (crack in the carbon frame.) Peter’s son Mitchell was on the ride on a road bike and he took great pleasure watching his Dad suffer on the MTB!
The other 15 riders rode the HILLs route. A little more eventful with Carmen clipping Gundi’s wheel on Main North Road and both riders coming off their bikes. No injury’s though and they were soon on the road again. Williams Road was the major challenge on this route with a serious incline to deal with. All Juz could remember about it though was the nude Statue of David in someone’s front yard! Not sure why that would capture her attention?? The group rode tightly together and consensus was that it was a great route and ride…apart form the cold!
Today’s routes were both less than 50kms. The Beginners group were back home before 10.00 followed by the Hills group 10 minutes later.
Back at Jaspers the dark clouds had gone and it had turned into a bright bright sun-shiny day! Over coffee Keith told us about his carbon frame also having a crack in it and would need replacing! What is it with the carbon frames!! We were also joined by Mark who dropped by to see his Dad…Gary Mills from Star Cycles. Now Gary, we hear that it was your birthday today!! Happy Birthday mate….you kept that very quiet!
NEXT WEEK: We willl be holding one group ride through the Barossa Valley and up to the Warren reservoir. Details will be posted on AC Events and YOU are most welcome to join us.
Thanks to all who rode today with the GWs….two great mid-winter rides!

Permalink Reply by Pete (repeats ?) Roberts on June 23, 2012 at 16:13 After a late night last night, when my alarm went off at 5.15am this morning I hit the snooze a little too hard.
Woke up a few hours later to blue skies and NO RAIN !
Looks like I missed yet another good GW event. Hope you had fun without me...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATE YOU OLD SOFT umm nahh your a tough nut :) Sorry bout me passing you up a hill using my large crank but then again I wasnt when you zoomed past me at the next hill LMAO... AND where's my piece of the birthday cake ? Oh yer you didnt have one hahahaha..
Thanks GW for an enjoyable ride this morning...Actually pretty happy when I compared my results up against the last time we rode this route.. Found most of it(not all) much more pleasant to negotiate, infact I even had time to sing a few tunes and check out the scenery..
Thanks Mick for hanging around with me for pretty much of the ride. Us tail enders really do appreciate yourself and the other TEC guys being there week in week out to help.
Frank... Your a legend with the way come up with these ride reports each week. Photo's,comments and just your presence on the road spurs me on to want keep going..
Oh yer PSSSSSSS.... John Mills birthday Sunday.. whats with this Mills surname ?
Permalink Reply by Michael Bland on June 23, 2012 at 17:46 They both look similar in the above photo , are they twins ?? 8~) Happy birthday Gary & John ..
Me thinks someone needs to visit "David" and place a GW sticker in a place where it will be seen by all. Much better than a leaf.
Did someone go back to take the picture, or stop on the way up?.
Permalink Reply by Juz on June 23, 2012 at 19:11 I went back (couldn't stop on the way up; what would Strava say?!). Frank was paying me out enough that it warranted a photo.
It's quite amusing because the yard it's in is quite bereft of any real garden or landscaping. It looks as if it was cleared for landscaping a while back and has just been left as dirt, rock, a collection of various oddities and then there is this rather prominent, decorative, metal arch with the statue standing in all it's glory.
A little further back, there is even an old, run-down bus in the yard with a large (but facing away from the road) 'For Sale' sign on it!
I do like your idea of a stratigically placed Gawler Wheelers sticker though! :-)
Permalink Reply by Dale (rouleur) Riggs on June 27, 2012 at 10:11 Your right Mick, poor old David could do with a strategically placed GW sticker to disguise his frosty morning shrinkage ;)
