How much quicker is it to commute by bike in Adelaide? Watch this video

DPTI have produced a time elapse video with a map superimposed to show how fast it is to ride from Glenelg to the CBD using the Mike Turtur Bikeway. Now you can tell friends there is no excuse if you live that way.

As a bonus see if you can spot the Adelaide Cyclists member (or maybe there are more than one). (Shhhh if you are that person!)

Update: Part 2, the Linear Park from West Beach to the city.

oh good point, thanks for the tips.

In peak hour cycling to the city along Beulah Road beats the Magill Road traffic jam easily.

I find all those pesky roundabouts slow me down when cycling, I take my life in my hands on magill rd instead, fastest time from magill to town is 16 minutes

Some messy road crossings but not to shabby.  Move over Copenhagen :-)

Oddly I think this trip would have been quicker taking Anzac Hwy.

and why is that odd?

I think it's odd because, despite this fact, people seem to be keen on using this backstreet with a zillion stops.

I thought the same. Some of those bike lanes looked very narrow for two way cycle and pedestrian use.
Some decent Cat6 jousting along the way too!

You are right.  I used to take the Anzac Hwy and it took me 38 minutes to ride from Warradale to The Advertiser where I used to work.

Ok heres a challenge for anyone who thinks Anzac Hwy is faster. I'll ride the Mike Tutur bikeway from the Brighton Rd tram stop to the GPO on King William and you ride from the jncn of Jetty Rd and Brighton Rd to the GPO via Anzac Hwy. Everyone must stop at red lights, no drafting vehicles and no riding on footpaths. Start at 8am on a weekday. Bikes to be roughly equivalent

Why no drafting vehicles if it's legal?

Great video. It makes Adelaide look almost impressive (except for that appalling u-turn you have to do near Stop 8).

All they need now is to join it up to some decent lanes in the CBD and they'll be nothing left for me to complain about. Heaven forbid.

It would be great to see this sort of thing going in all directions from the city.
