Premier Kristina Keneally launched the plan – part of the Government’s Metropolitan Transport Plan: Connecting the City of Cities at Centennial Park with the Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport, David Borger.
The plan maximises the direct economic benefits of bike riding. It commits to promoting cycle tourism across the State and marketing the NSW Coastline Cycleway as a premier cycle touring opportunity once it is completed.
“This is the investment in cycling the people of NSW have been asking for; it will mean we can ride safely with our families, our kids and our friends across this wonderful city and State,” Ms Keneally said.
“The new plan builds on a solid platform of delivering for the cycling community including the existing 4100 kilometres of bike paths across NSW.”
This on top of announcing a Smart Card scheme (apart from some controversy around having to give $3.5mil to London's Boris Johnson) and all of the other Sydney cycling infrastructure recently opening by the Sydney City Council.
I hope our Premier is paying attention AND our Adelaide City Council.
