I've been considering buying a bike for a few months and finally did. mainly to get back some fitness and strength, as i've become lazyover the last 10 or so years, since having my licence. and i may also ride to work every now and then (14kms each way) from reynella to edwardstown. we'll see...

i rode everywhere as a kid/teenager, back home in the country on my mountain bikes. today was my first day of riding in the city(well sthn suburbs) big change with traffic! i loved having the dedicated bike paths, but riding on the roads was interesting. most cars were good, only a few didnt want me to even be stradling the left edge of the lane.

i bought an 2012 Avanti Explorer 3, and so far (28kms) it seems like a good choice. once i'm a fitter person again, it'd be great to ride with some of you. right now my legs have no endurance. every semi-serious hill had me back in first, with instant lactic acid feelings, or even walking the bike up.

i saw several posts about strava and used it on my phone and uploaded. great app! will hopefully buy a dedicated gps computer in the next few weeks.

thanks for reading and also for providing a great site. (been lurking for a few weeks.)

HI Simon,

Welcome.
I notice you go to Ed'stown - come on down and see some track racing one friday night, its very social and good to look at too

Lee-Anne

It is behind the bowling club on Raglan ave.

the corner of Nelson St and East Tce will get you very close.

Welcome buddy heaps of good advice here!

Hi Simon.

Another Southerner!

Be sure to join the 'southern suburbs road cyclists' under groups.

Wattsy runs a beginners ride every second week that is a good way to get back into things!

+1 for the beginners ride. I can highly recommend after doing my first group ride with these guys.

Welcome Simon, good to have another rider aboard. Don't worry about the legs, the more you ride the better they'll get, just remember to stay hydrated as that will help with recovery. As Reidy said, plenty of advice & best of all it's free.

Mate, as a Reynella local, get yourself down to Tailwind Cycles on a Saturday morning for a group ride. Slow group leaves about 0715 and covers about 35kms at an average of 22kph, back to the shop for coffe by 0900.

Your fitness will come on in no time.

Paul.

will do. i live about 100m from tailwind(if thats the one behind the shell servo?) i work every other saturday, but ill come out on a ride soonish. saturdays tend to be the day i go on group rideson my motorbike. i guess i'll have to sort out some sort of roster for the bikes!

thanks to everyone for the nice replies.

That's the one, pop in and have a chat with Nathan, he's an all round very knowledgeable chap. Plus it's great to support your local bike shop, and in your case Simon it's very local.............. haha

Welcome Simon,

Well done on getting the bike and getting out on it. It won't take long for you to gain fitness and then you can work on technique. Please don't hesitate about joining a group you might see on this site as they do state the expectations for their rides and will be most welcome to join in. You might even surprise yourself.

Enjoy.

Simon, you might find it interesting to look at the Muddies Saturday morning rides, sorry, Southern Suberbs Road Cyclists (SSRC) group listed on this site. They run an "L" ride every second Saturday morning starting from Beck's bakery at Port Noarlunga for new and experianced alike. Have a read of my blog entry for the one ran last Saturday at http://www.pcsa.net.au/2011/11/19/ride-47-ssrc-l-ride-number-3-12-s... for an idea of what to expect. Also check out the "Events" "Group Rides" from the menu at the top of Adelaide Cyclists web site and look for the "L" or the Muddies which is a Blue square with a Mudcrab riding a bike. The alternate Saturday to the "L" ride is a more advanced ride setting off from Hallet Cove shopping center. Both are good ride and I frequent them myself.

Hope you enjoy your return to cycling.
