I've not ridden the southern suburbs so advice needed.
After Amy's ride we as a family will ride back to Flinders uni. Towing a 4 yo so slow speed. Say Hi to Denby in the trailer as you pass Tracy & myself :)
Cycle Instead journey planner suggests coast to vines trail to Old Reynella then Veloway.
Would it be better/ possible to join the veloway sooner? Does veloway start at the Expressway South Rd T junction (Old Noarlunga end)?
I suspect coast to vines is more scenic but by that stage of the day shortest & easiest route is probably most desirable.
Thanks in advance
Coast to Vines is less scenic, has more road crossings but is less hilly. If towing a trailer it is the route I would take, the only problem is negotiating the Panalatinga Rd intersection which is a bit like the Bermuda triangle for bike trails.
The veloway (actually the southern way) starts just after a tunnel on the C to V, you can't miss it. The real veloway starts at Sheidow park and is the cyclist only section but expect to see joggers, pedestrians and dog walkers on there on a sunday arvo.
Jules, little difference in distance between using the Veloway (yes, starts near the end of Southern Expressway, after coming through tunnel). The Veloway is up and down the entire way. The coast-to-vines via Reynella is a more gentle gradient (old train line) and has more shade and two toilets by it in different spots (none on Veloway). There are 7 road crossings on the Coast-to-Vines, easy to manage. Alternative if need be is train from Noarlunga to Oaklands Park or Marion, then nearby Sturt River linear park to near Flinders.
Thanks for the train suggestion, good to have a back up plan.
I suspect coast to vines is more scenic but by that stage of the day shortest & easiest route is probably most desirable I dont think there is much differance in length but coast to vines is less hilly and theres a lot more shade which is a nice on a 33 degree day.
Veloway from McLaren Vale is the most direct and bike friendly (no cars)
Thanks to all for advice
Followed the coast to vines back to panalatinga rd/southrd.
Filled bidons at park on way & coffee at HJ's
Then Veloway home, some short but steep inclines.
Great ride & confident in the knowledge gained from above posts.
