Help needed - broken light repair / soldering - anyone know where I could get this fixed?

Hi All

I have a Niterider Minewt USB head light - great light except that the cord has frayed / become damaged leading to the intermittent illumination of the lighting unit :-((

Does anyone know of somewhere / someplace / someone in Adelaide who might be able to fix this? It is a shame to have it sitting around not being used due to this fault.

The cable where it plugs into the light - does it come out? If yes, is it some kind of proprietary design or some standard one? If it is standard, buy a new one, cut and reconnect. You can use heat-shrink tube to water seal.

If it is proprietary cut the cable off, then carefully cut away a minimum of the plastic from the connector end exposing the wires. Resolder and again seal with heat-shrink tube. A hot-glue gun can be good for insulating fiddly areas.

Best of luck.

Cut and shut with a bit of fiddling.

Can the light be opened up?

If so, do a bit of a operation on it and cut cable, strip wires and re-solder.

I can lend you solder and iron or be happy to give a hand.

Open the light up 1st though and see.

Hi

I have repaired this particular model light previously,it is a little fiddly to do but is easily done if careful !

If you feel you are not up to the task feel free to let me know and I can do the job for you !

Ps: The wires need to be stripped and cut offset[This ensures no possibility of Shorting out between the wires],then the main Plug body ID must be enlarged to suit the "new" section of outer casing that must be forced into the Plug body !

This ensures a snug watertight fit !

if it is a case of replacing the plug on the wire I have the gear if you can get another plug.

Dick Smiths used to stock this type of stuff.

If you are keen let me know and I will bring the gear to the bike workshop on Saturday.

Dick Smiths stock bugger all in that range nowadays, no money in it now they are owned by Woolworths. Try Jaycar

I'm surprised you haven't asked Sam
