Happy New Year everyone,

Hope the celebrations last night were good.

Also I wanted to advise everybody to be vigilant of hoons out on the road at this time of the year.

I was riding towards Glenelg along Anzac Highway this morning when, out of the blue, a white commodore zoomed passed me with only centimeters to spare. I'm certain that if it was just a little closer I would have been done for. The car hugged the bike lane for a while before moving to the centre of the left lane. I estimate it was traveling at about 70km/h.

If the driver wanted to startle me it worked. That manouver scared the bejesus out of me.

So be careful out there and safe riding.

Normal Anzac Hwy traffic from experience...now pretty used to getting wing mirror rubbed on that stretch of road. Hoobs this time of year is normal and they proliferate around the beaches on hot summer evenings. Afraid that driver behaviour can be quite appalling

Sad and scary to think that this is normal behaviour isn't Rob?

Have you actually had wing mirrors hit you?

Several years ago got a good crack on the head with a bus mirror near Goodwood Road it cracked my helmet. Last week a guy on a motor scooter buzzed me in the bike lane in Bray Street and the police saw him and pulled him over.

Had something similar a month ago, white commodore also, but he came across into the bike lane and slammed his brakes on then sped off. Luckily I was only doing about 25 kph, so could avoid him. I just asked, 'why would you bother?' must be envious of people having fun!

Yes, sad, but true, they are out there.

I had one try to scare me on Sturt Road (heading west, just past Marion Shopping Centre, a few days ago) - a white smallish car (sorry, no good with car makes) came around the corner from Morpthett Road, saw me in the bike lane, and leaned on horn. (didn't see if male or female driver).  The funny thing was that it must have been so busy looking in the rear view mirror to see my reaction (which was none), that it slammed into the median strip with a big bang and glanced off.  Then it went wobbling down Sturt Road and made a quick right turn - I think it must have been embarrassed! It would definitely have done some damage to the front of the car!

It is so satisfying to see "Instant Karma" at work!

That  must have felt nice.

mmm....

very nice.

such a rare thing, that instant karma...  I'd like to see it in action more often.

Also, a reminder to watch out for broken bottles on the road, and in car parks etc.

my god... the broken glass is EVERYWHERE!!!!

practically impossible to avoid...

Went for a walk down Old Freeway bike track yesterday and cleared away a few patches of broken glass on the way down. Noticed a bit of graffiti painted on the road at The Bollards....reads "real men ride women"......Ill be packing a pot of black paint on my next walk.

That piece of graffiti is legendary! I remember seeing it the first time i rode to the bollards and had a good laugh to myseIf (and wondering why anyone would go to so much effort!) I wouldn't paint over it - we should be able to laugh at ourselves occasionally!

I remember seeing that piece of graffiti in the 70s and asking my mum what it meant. Im still not sure she has answered.
