Gully Grinders Ride Report: #'Oh bother, I've lost count' - GG > OH > GG

Eight riders started the jaunt down to outer harbour this morning. Once again, it was lovely to welcome some new riders to the group, and its always a pleasure to see our regular riders! Despite the P-plater who thought he'd shout out the window about how lovely it must be to ride in chilly weather, it was an uneventful ride down to OH.

After the quick regroup at the end of Victoria Rd, it was the strava 'dash for a slash' for a proper rest stop (might just have to turn this into a genuine strava segment - K/QOM goes to the one that has the fullest bladder and therefore the most motivated to ride the segment quickly!). Just after the break, Carl and Wendy caught us up on the foreshore ('Hello').

Roger rocketed away on Hart St, and my tyre was visited by The Evil Pixy just outside of the Port which meant we didn't see him until we were back at WVDrive where he got the camera out and made up for my astonishing slackness at taking photos en route. In true GG fashion we did have a couple of starters that didn't make it to the end of the ride with Dave and Paul having to cut the ride short due to other commitments (Paul, hope you got the puncture fixed quickly on Bridge Rd mate) and newcomer Geoff deciding to shorten his ride (he's only been riding 2 weeks, keep at it mate you'll build up strength/stamina in no time!).

Wynn Vale Drive I found to be quite challenging this week, owing to being a slacker and not riding for three weeks (for various lame excuses: weather, laziness, illness, interstate jaunts), and getting another slow-leak puncture at the start of the climb (that'll teach me!).

Back at Prices we met up with Arthur's daughter, and by happy happenstance another cyclist who'd been out on some mountain bike tracks (I'm so sorry I cannot remember your name, please feel free to give me some stick next week when you join us for having a woeful memory for names).

Today's map so you can see where we trundled: http://www.bikemap.net/route/1618133

We're back in the hills and riding to Kersbrook next Sunday (http://www.bikemap.net/route/1647395), if that sounds like your 'cup-of-tea' why don't you come out and join us :-)

Nice and warm back at Prices

... and from another angle (although if Claudio got his right hand in the right spot, it would have been a nice 'moose antlers photo bomb' for Arthur there!) :-)

Looks like I missed a fun ride. I did the GW ride yesterday and had to have a quiet day to recuperate today. Plus cut up a bit of dry firewood before the neighbours start complaining about me burning green wood! One day I would like to try that trip. Often wondered how easy it would be to ride down to my local beach, Semaphore, for a swim, rather than drive. Looks like a sensible route you followed. Also would like to see what that Wynn Vale Drive is all about. Sounds like a challenge. So I will watch out for when you do it again and try to come along with you.

Nice to see you had some newbies join in for the fun too. Well done Carl for again managing to get out on the bike two days in a row! You will sleep well tonight I reckon. Hope that cold/flu was a bit better for you today.

A really nice ride  today. It wasn't wet at all and although we pushed into a head wind approaching Outer Harbor it wasn't long and we had a strong wind on our backs the whole way back.

Looks like you had another fun day out in the wind. I only got out to play once this weekend; heading out on a similar route to yours, before heading South down to Hackhem & back. We had plenty of fun with the Tu Tu cladded Girl. ( 7 times on 3 bikes )
Your Kersbrook route next week sounds interesting. Where are you planning to go ?

Decending a hill into a wind isn't too bad.. you just don't roll quite as fast unless you use the drops. We hardly noticed any wind at all till we were about 10km from the turn around point at Outer Harbor roundabout.

@Pete, the route map for the kersbrook ride next week: http://www.bikemap.net/route/1647395
Just edited the main text to include the map link, for those who are interested :-)
If wifey has her research calls in the afternoon and it's not raining, I'll be there.

Is that the same as week #18 ?

Yes, Pete - DOWN Torrens Hill Rd again!

After yesterday's GW Hills ride I decided to cut out the usual slog up The Grove Way to the start and arranged to join the ride on Montague Rd. But missed the group and spent a while trying to catch up. I could probably have caught up had I been by myself, but Wendy couldn't keep up with me (still working on another bike for her). We eventually met up in Larg's Bay. Nice to see more new faces this week. On the way back newbie Geoff was struggling and decided to bail at Main North Rd. A quick check with Gemma as to the others' whereabouts meant that we could make our way back to Price's via a different, less steep, more tired-legs-friendly route. Although we rode with the group for a portion of the full route it was good to be back amongst friends. Nice, mainly flat, ride - very welcome after yesterday's hills. Looking forward to the next time already.
