Gully Grinders Ride Report: GG > Chain of Ponds > Kersbrook > One Tree Hill > GG

Thirteen riders braced the foggy morning for our assault on the north eastern hills. Again, it was wonderful to see so many new faces, as well as our regular riders! A bit of a reversal of our usual routes saw us slogging up the Seaview/Range Rd's rather than careening down them. The ride around Chain of Ponds was spectacular and moody with some low lying fog. A refuel and pitstop at Kersbrook was in order before tackling the challenging Col de Kersbrook. Paul was the first to be visited by the puncture fairy on the descent from the Col. The evil little sprite struck again just at the top of Blacktop Rd, where she also tested my patience - fixed the puncture, only to rip the top off the presta valve removing the pump - doh! Another tube change and we were once again on our way. Another slog up the Grove Way and we were back at Prices to warm up. Thanks to Terry for letting me know it was John's birthday today just as we disbanded, Happy Birthday John - I enjoyed our chat at the bakery! I hope you had a lovely ride and rest of the day today!

Gearing up at the start...

I'm sure there is joke here somewhere... :-)

Birthday boy John and Carl back at Prices. Sorry I forgot to take a group shot back at the bakery!

Edit: map of today's route :-)

Interesting report! An inclusion of the map link from the event page would have been nice though.

I have never ridden or even driven the roads you went on today apart from the short time on Main North road so I have no idea what the ride was like.

One day, maybe when the weather is a little better, I might try and join you guys for a ride.

Happy riding!

Route map added at the end, thanks for the suggestion. Hope to see you out on a ride soon.

Far too tough a route for me today.  Thanks to Mick and Mark for showing me the way back via the "shortened route."  Some of the downhills were unbelievable!

Back to training on smaller hills I think! ;)

Good on you for giving it a go Lee ..

Keep at it Lee, you'll get there!

@ Michael and Gemma, thanks for your encouragement.  I will live to fight another day!

I have been feeling pretty flat all week actually, so I am not too disheartened now.

I guess I am just going to have to train harder during the week.

Hang in there, my first ride up those climbs we did today I had to stop a couple of times - Scott, Roger and Andrew hung back and encouraged me all the way. Four months later and I'm a completely different rider, there is no quicker way to increase fitness than doing hills. I hope you feel better (no low lying flu or virus) and we hope to see you out again soon! It's a social ride, we're all there to help and encourage each other :-)

I think I do have flu or something Gemma.  One of the girls at work was sick last week, so looks like I am now too!

I have had a bit of rest and something to eat and don't feel too bad though...

Lee,

Thursday if you're free (and anyone else for that matter) i'm gonna go for a ride to Birdwood if you're keen? never been up that way before and since i have soccer sunday mornings i've never got the chance to join the GG..
