Permalink Reply by Mike Andy on July 28, 2012 at 16:10 I got mine from Bicycle Express online - they delivered it same day too!!!
I have the red/black premium bundle, and although I love the GPS unit, I will tell you right now that the garmin heart rate strap is a piece of sh*t.
Mine started working intermittently after 3 months and has now packed it entirely - and I did take good care of it.
I thought I would take it back for a warranty replacement, but BE and/or Garmin will only take it as a whole package - i.e. I have to apparently send my GPS and HRM and GSC10 back to the shop - which is totally unacceptable, so I have just lived with it for now.
Be prepared to shell out $60-$70 a year for a new HRM :)

Permalink Reply by Mike Andy on August 4, 2012 at 18:12 Just on this - I have a Polar premium heart rate strap from my old bike computer, and surprisingly the Garmin HRM clips into this perfectly and works like a charm. for the first time in months I now have HR readings again!!!
Permalink Reply by Mike Andy on July 28, 2012 at 20:00 Yeah - not blaming BE for that - just not that great for me... I'm one of these techno-riders where if I cant graph and stat my ride, I may as well not even bother getting dressed up :)
When I was looking into buying my Garmin, I did a bunch of googling. There was a lot of complaints about the Heart rate strap and most of them seemed to be people using the premium one. Did not see many, if any, complaints about the standard one.
So I got the standard one, hasn't missed a beat, so to speak...

Permalink Reply by Steven Ellison on July 30, 2012 at 16:11 I agree with Blake. I used a Globalsat HRM previously and had a lot of trouble with it so when I decided to buy a Garmin I researched the difference between the standard and premium strap. Most complaints were with the Premium (soft strap) where as the normal strap seemed reliable. I don't even notice the normal strap when I am wearing it and it has been solidly reliable. I do always use conductive gell when I put it on because of previous experiences but it has been great for almost a year now. May need to change the battery soon!
