It was pleasing to see the local press during the week supporting both our local hero Jack Bobridge and also the Gawler Wheelers.
Ride Summary
33 riders participated in today’s GW ride including newbies Maurice and David. Nice to meet you guys and it was pleasing to hear after the ride how much you enjoyed it.
Prolific AC blogger Steve Ellison also joined us today. You have to applaud Steve. He rode 205kms yesterday; he then rode from Woodcroft to ride with us today and then rode back home!
Today we rode one of our traditional routes in the reverse direction to normal for the very first time. It was a breathtaking and exciting ride in perfect conditions. A good steady pace was kept up by everyone on the first leg to Wasleys. Riding in this direction gave us the opportunity to briefly regroup and check out the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus.
The Wasley to Freeling leg saw a few undulations introduced to the ride, and whilst requiring harder work the calm and dry conditions enabled all riders to keep up a good fast pace on this leg.
Following the Freeling regroup the fun started. The 23km leg back to Gawler was on a slight descent and with a tailwind. Well, you can imagine that the riders all absolutely smashed this leg with speeds generally of well over 40kph all the way back home. Top speed on this leg was close to 60kph and that assisted the faster riders achieve an average speed of 33kph for the whole 57km ride.
We arrived back at Gawler just after 10.00am and the conversation was all about how good the ride was. The riders will post more comments about it, however suffice to say that “spectacular” would best describe the morning and the ride.
NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two con-current rides. One will be a brand new HILLs route and that ride event will be posted on AC by Wilson tomorrow. The other will be a FLAT ride, with details available on AC Events soon. YOU are very welcome to ride with us next week…just pick your ride!
When everyone arrived for this morning’s GW ride all the talk was about our Jack Bobridge and the Aussie Team taking the silver medal only a few hours earlier in London. Whilst they didn’t ace the gold it was still a wonderful achievement. Jack, you are our KING! We managed to get a friend to whip up a quick tune for you mate…ENJOY!

Unfortunately, I had some medical issues during the week and one of the doctors advised me not to ride today. :(
Looking forward to making a comeback next week, all things being equal! :)

Permalink Reply by Pete Roberts on August 4, 2012 at 18:37 I was another missing in action today, and will be tomorrow too...
Seems like my back needs a holiday.
How quick you can go from super hero to Grandpa just because a disk wants to start bulging...
I so hate getting old :(
Permalink Reply by Dave, Lewiston on August 4, 2012 at 20:15 Hey Pete, great to see you at Jaspers this morning!
I had similar issues a couple of years ago. I'm still not a superhero (even after lots of practice), but still not a grandpa either (the kids are still too young for that) , but the bulging disc seems to have sorted itself out. It just needed time.
Raising my level of fitness also made a huge difference, so you shouldn't have any worries there :)
