I've been surfing wiggle and bike exchange and came across this Focus Cayo (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/focus-cayo-105-ltd-triple-2011) It is pretty cheap. I currently have a 'vintage' 2002 Avanti Monza with full Ultegra 6700 groupset which I bought used for a steal. I am happy with it with the exception of serious slipping when I change gears on a hill - pretty much most of the time around my here.
What I want to ask is what are the current thoughts on the Focus brand? I want to go for the triple instead of the usual double chain rings because of the amount of hill work even leaving the house involves. The price tag seems incredibly cheap, so is there a catch?
Thanks in advance

It is up to you.
I would think if the gears slipping is the only issue have you investigated how much it would cost to sort it out?
If you want a triple get it.
Just because you live in Adelaide docent mean you will never go interstate of have a day on a hill where you are feeling flat.
Permalink Reply by Gus K on March 29, 2012 at 21:58 I have a Focus Cayo 1.0 and to declare up front that the local retailer is a supporter of this site, many of its members and local racing and CX in Adelaide. The Australian importer is also in Adelaide also a supporter of cycling in Adelaide.
That bike is a strange mix of components and I would has it a guess it is a cobbled together last of the run Wiggle is allowed to sell before it being taken off them. All the components are a bit under par but the price is very good but remember you wont get local support for warranty and you will need to pay tax. The wheels are very basic, seat post, stem etc are not what you would get on the Cayo 2 and 3 here (mostly FSA) even the tyres would be best replaced.
Focus is a good brand and just last week won the respected Bike Radar/ Cycling Plus magazine bike of the year with the Izalco Pro 3. This bike didn't review so well here.
Go down to the Bike Station and see Noel and talk about the Cayo range he has and what he can do. Tell him Adelaide Cyclists sent you.

Permalink Reply by maya on March 30, 2012 at 8:04 Thank you. I would much rather buy local but for my budget rarely find anything, at least I would be able to get a decent fit. I will def head down to bike station (brighton road correct?) and check it out. Am keen to swap up to a carbon fibre frame. The Monza is way too big for me. I get very serious neck aches and some knee trouble as the top tube is too long for my 5'2" size.
I'll head to bike station and see how it goes. Cheers all.

Permalink Reply by Gus K on March 30, 2012 at 9:58 Correct fitting is a must. I am 5'6" and I have an XS frame (after double check fitting from Noel).
Permalink Reply by Shav Bird on March 30, 2012 at 10:35 Im about the same height as you Angus. But isn't it the inseam of the leg they measure mainly?
Permalink Reply by Matt "Boz" on March 30, 2012 at 11:28 I can't comment - I am 6'5" and have a XXL bike ... lol
Permalink Reply by Matt "Boz" on March 30, 2012 at 8:21 Another happy Focus Cayo rider here - although I went the 3.0 option to get the SRAM running gear.
Overall really happy with the bike - compact gearing and 11-28 cassette has seen me handle all hills I have tackled so far, the bike is very well made and certainly gets the job done.
Definitely go see Noel at the Bike Station for some honest advice - he will not sell you anything you do not need and will stick to your budget.
Also - to put in perspective TBSM have the 2011 Cayos at the following prices - by the time you pay for shipping and taxes, these prices would not be much more and you get better specs.
4.0 (105) for $1695
3.0 (Sram Force) $1995
2.0 (Ultegra) $1995
