Went for my first ride using Strava yesterday. Victor Harbor - Goolwa and return. Was a good ride overall, though the last 5km were hard, especially as the final km or so feels near vertical to me.

I stopped briefly in Goolwa for an "energy drink".

My questions relate to HRM and cadence on Strava. I have a Polar set up and Strava didn't link with my sensors, which is a minor bummer to me. Do I need some Strava specific / Garmin or whatever to get those functions or is it simply a matter of some preference change to make my gear work?

Thanks in advance.

Brett.

From what I can gather, the only "supported" GPS devices for Strava are some of the Garmin "into sports" range (ie: the Edge and Forerunner devices) and anything supporting the Strava iPhone or Android app. According to the following Strava support link, the native Polar HRM file is not in the correct format and needs to be converted. What I didnt see, is that once converted if it retains info such as HRM and cadence, or GPS data only.
If no one can answer it here, you could search the Stava helpdesk or drop them a line

Thanks for that. I had looked at that info. but was unsure of the precise meaning, so took the lazy option of asking here.

It's not a really big deal for me, and I certainly won't be buying any new gear to make it happen, but I'll keep looking for a workaround.

Well, now that you mention it....

if you can covert the polar file into .tcx, strava should see all data you have. this is how it works for the bryton devices.

agree with simon, its all about file format, here is a excellent site for gps converions formats

Thanks again to all for your help.

It looks like due to the model of Polar I'm running that I'd need a few bits of new hardware, and I'd still not get a continuous HRM reading anyway, as my model doesn't store that info., so I think I'll just stick with what I have and enjoy it.
