I've decided I need to stretch myself a bit more than the weekly Mt Lofty / Montecute run so I'e opted to have a crack at Lobethal for the first time.
Heading up Norton Summit tomorrow morning and then off into the unknown.
Any advice from those who ride it regularly ? Just going to pace myself until I know the road.
Cheers.

Thanks mate. I will push myself more as the year gets on ... Working up to 100k+

As ZZ says the climb up forrest range is challenging but it is quite difficult for first timers, definately save some juice for that one, it is not  that long but sure does feel like it thou, enjoy and dont be to alarmed if you have to stop on that climb, i did my first time but hit it too hard in the begining

Forest range is a grind, keep some in reserve and once in Lobethal, go to bakery and have the custard tart, its a riders must have IMHO.

Ride back the other way past the dam, I am bad with names and have forgotten name of route but its gold.

What time u leaving, I am doing same route?

I'll probably leave Felixstow 7 -7.30. Feel free to say g'day a you no-doubt pass me :) I'll be on my flatty.

Forest Range is tough first time but breath the air in - it's clean, crisp with a hint of pine. After Forest Range there is a pretty long smooth gradual downhill to Lenswood then a few short climbs to Lobethal. You know you've made it when you pass Piss Weak World Fairy Land

How are you getting home? The easier way is over to Cudlee Creek with a steady climb out of Lobethal then it's just the bumpy bits around Kangaroo Creek Dam to get over.

Enjoy

Yep, thats the way, very few climbs and a good ride.

I was going to return the same route as I'm not overly keen on the town-side of Gorge Road ... Might give it another go, though.

Agreed, not keen on that either but worth it

I reckon Gorge Rd is fine. It's narrow but I've never had any issues.

Thanks for the heads up guys. A thoroughly enjoyable ride. Forrest Range is an amazing hill. Came back via Cudlee Creek and Gorge Road wasn't too bad. Terrible road surface but worth it for the downhill bit after the dam. Great ride.
