Im riding from home to Middleton (Im not a nutjob Im a cyclist) staying the night then riding back.

I have done a rough route http://www.bikemap.net/route/1445927 was just wondering what people thought.  Are there any roads or sections that you would say "dont go on that road!!".

Also I will be travelling very light just a day pack. Any suggestions on what I should make sure I take.

Items I have thought of include: Sunscreen, Pump( I do use CO2 better to have back up), extra staminade powder, Carbs, Camera, Mob phone, Least amount clothes can get away with.

If anyone is as mad as me and would like to ride some of the route or all of it cool more the merrier.

I'm not sure how you would best get up to Seaview Rd behind Golden Grove, but after that I would recommend this route.

Fewer main roads. I live in Inglewood and commute and have often ridden up to Lobethal or Hahndorf on the weekend so I know all these roads well and could do this ride without a map.

I never ride up North East Rd to get home.  I did it once a few years ago and won't do it again.  Too much traffic and like myself, much of it is very fast (they do 80kph while I do 10kph).  Lower Nth East Rd (Anstey Hill) or looping around Seaview and Range Rd Nth are much quieter.  Then heading through Paracombe to Gorge Rd, Cudlee creek, and Fox Creek is is a lovely ride too.

It may be simpler to continue along Swamp Rd to the Adelaide Balhannah Rd, but for some reason I have always gone the other way and just realised I have never tried that road.

The ride through Echunga and Meadows is a nice ride too and I think bike SA rides in the past have often gone along that way.

I should warn you though.  It isn't flat but I don't think the route I have drawn up is very different form yours, just my hills are on quieter roads.

Coffee stops for me would be Cudlee Crk (after the CFS station, not near the caravan park and Gorge wildlife park a couple of k earlier) and Hahndorf.

+1 to Jilden for the route through Crafers, Mylor, Echunga too.  There is a road between Aldgate and Mylor called Aldgate Valley Rd that is a wonderful smooth winding road (and slightly downhill in that direction) that is just a joy to ride on.

Thanks for that Alex thats what i was looking for some local knowledge. I will use some of your route in mine.

Hi Michael, I've ridden from Modbury to Strath and then turned left for Murray Bridge via an assortment of routes several times. I'm having a little trouble working out the northern end of your route but it looks like your going up to Greenwith, whichever way you go it's a shit of a hill so early in the ride. Bearing in mind that you have minimal traffic early on a Sunday morning I would be inclined to turn off Main Nth at the Golden Way and then right into Bridge Rd, then Portrush and up the old freeway to Crafers and onto Strath via Mylor. Aldgate to Mylor via Aldgate Valley Road is absolutely stunning and virtually no traffic. There is a shop in Mylor where you can get refreshments, minimal choice but the people are really nice.. there is a shop in Echunga and a bakery but I'm not sure if they are open on a Sunday and my experience at the shop was crap, he locked the door just as I reached it and turned his back. Should be better fare in Meadows. I would go to Strath via Paris Creek rather than Macclesfield, a much quieter and pleasent road. Plenty of refueling options in Strath though you can skip Strath and head down to Bull Creek and Ashbourne then onto Currency Creek via Creek Road, probably less traffic but I've only ridden down that way once and can't really recall too much about it.

Send a PM to Brian Jenkins (BJ) he knows all those roads and gives excellent knowllegeable advice.

Good luck today guys & girls ! You are going to clock up some serious KM's this weekend !!!

Just saw on Facebook that they made it safely to Middleton

Aww, thanks for caring :-)

We had a lovely ride down and back - Michael is writing a ride report and I'll add my bit in the comments once he's posted.
