It seems many cyclists go riding first thing in the morning.

While in summer the heat of the day can be hot and uncomfortabal.

In the cooler months this can mean riding in the dark and the weather can be more comfortable later in the day when it is warmer.

I can see that the traffic is less early in the day.

Are there other reasons to get up early and freeze your fingers (or other bits) off in winter.

other reasons?

Gus says we have to (http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/womgie) so that we can have a glow of smugness during the day  ;)

and a group hug.

Yeah! And didn't we earn respect for our smugness after Wednesday's 4c 6am start!

Up here on the 50th parallel North we get a big difference in day length season to season and that plays a big roll in my rhythms. When it gets light-ish at 8:30 am I'm not up for early morning rides, but when the sun comes up at 5 am I'm up for action early.  It really is a fabulous way to start a day.

For me I am up early for work each day so it becomes a routine.  With all the demands on our time from family and other interests the morning is the time thats left spare we can use for our own enjoyment.

I can be home by 10 O'Clock before the rest of the family are out of bed therefore my ride doesn't impact on family time.

bingo

kinda cute to get home after 60+ Ks, just as the family wander down the hallway for breaky :-)

Yeah, my leave pass expires at 9:30 reagardless of the season!

It's a great way to get my self up and at 'em at 5am for work.

+1

I'm home by 715-720 on a weekday (having covered 40-50km) and 830am on Saturday (having covered 60-70km). Getting up at 5am to ride is the only time I really have. The roads are quieter and you get to see some nice sunrises (like this, this, thisthis and this) Riding in daylight is a bit of a novelty after years of riding in the dark.
