Kaye, do not let others put you off. Some AC posts on a cyclist accident are the first we hear about an incident that involves an AC member. A cyclist accident may not involve a vehicle but usually does, when I use the word 'collision'. I do not like over use of the word 'accident' which implies that an errant driver could not have avoided the impact.
I coordinate an AC group Look For Cyclists where, among other advocacy, I collate links to accidents and collisions reported on AC. In Dec-2011 I made a submission to the National Transport Commission, requesting some cycling safety improvements. I included my list of links to support my argument that improvements are necessary.

I can think of far more cycling accidents that didn't involve a car than ones where a car was involved. I also question why it is always assumed that the car driver is at fault when a car and cyclist collide.
As cyclists we don't need to be paranoid about sharing the road with vehicles, just be aware of the potential problems, ride accordingly, don't ride outside our limits on downhills, be wary riding in a pack, keep our wits about us, use our peripheral vision, signal and ride predictably and we can hopefully all enjoy our rides without incident.
To read some of the posst here and on other bike forums one would think there's a car/bike war going on out there, certainly not in my experience.

Please carefully consider the outcomes before flaming someone who is just trying to share some information.

Reporting of such accidents, reminds us that we all need to take care. I certainly appreciate it that someone has gone to the effort to report the information, particularity since cycling accidents are very much under reported.

While some topics may not be of interest to some people there is no obligation to participate.
I suppose if you want people to think you are a crabby old grouch.
Act like a crabby old grouch,
Permalink Reply by Juz on April 4, 2012 at 10:03 I've just read this thread an my overwhelming response is, "Holy SH!T". I sure hope the cyclist is ok because everyone here has forgotten how to let things be about anyone/thing but themselves.
Well put Juz! +1
