Permalink Reply by Darren on December 2, 2011 at 22:27 But they're popping up everywhere. The semantics are too weird - cyclists ride in this lane during these hours, and somewhere else outside of these hours!?!
I think the intent is to allow cars to park in those lanes outside of peak hours, but agree they are dumb!
Yeah Yeah.

Yeah, traffic jamming - but quite roads are safer ;-)
Yeah Yeah, And no broken/smashed beer bottles on the Road but the bike lane of course Hahaha
Most times I flow in with the traffic anyway, not slower of course.
What's the confusion? I've always read these signs to mean that between the stated times, its a bike-only lane. Outside those times, cars are allowed to park in the lane. It hardly implies that you're NOT allowed to ride in that space outside those times, just that you'll be sharing it with cars. What's wrong with that?

Permalink Reply by Darren on December 3, 2011 at 16:00 It ceases to be a bike lane out of those hours, so the white line "vanishes" and it becomes like any other street - cars park there and its no longer compulsory to ride in.
Permalink Reply by Rob W on December 3, 2011 at 22:09 careful about that last bit:
247—Riding in a bicycle lane on a road
(1) The rider of a bicycle riding on a length of road with a bicycle lane designed for
bicycles travelling in the same direction as the rider must ride in the bicycle lane
unless it is impracticable to do so.
Offence provision.
