That's what I get....i'll start to feel one muscle start to cramp, but if I get off and try to stretch it, my whole leg will cramp.

Extremely frustrating and painful when you cant stretch one muscle to ease a cramp because the muscle required to do this is also cramping!

I've tried everything....my position is good, always well hydrated, take magnesium tablets, stretch daily (whether I ride or not) all to no avail. I only cramp on long road rides though, which is part of the reason why I try to avoid them.

It's frustrating and embarrasing when I've been racing for about 5 years, but your average commuter can ride further than me!

Have you tried a weekly massage?

Yep, for about 2 years now....

In the middle of summer when i feel empty of an evening I occasionally have vegimite soup or just lots of salt.

But i don't tend to get cramps while riding.

I get them in my sleep.

I hate that.  I'm having a nice quite sleep and I stretch a leg and suddenly I'm rolling on the floor in pain feeling like someone has tied my calf muscle in knot.  Always the left leg. Yuck.

Yep, this is definately a thread for me. I cramp severly at most sports I play. Running based my calves will cramp. Riding and it is my quads, hammies and calves. I cramped so badly on Sunday my legs locked straight about 4 times. Even when they did not lock straight I could not relieve them as I was cramping in all muscle groups between my knee and hip. stretch the hammies and the quads would cramp, stretch the quads and the hammies would cramp. At least the calves held up. I too have tried all of the previously mentioned remedies to no avail. I learnt also, through a completely unrelated issue, that Vitamin D is required for your body to absorb both calcium and magnesium. This will definately effect cramping but it is mostly going to effect night time cramps, not so much excesive excercise cramp. As a side note, how many bidons did people tend to go through on Amy's. Maybe I am not keeping the fluid up enough.
