Coffee Pod\Capsule Maker Advice

Hey All

This is where I break the rules - I ride a bike and don't drink coffee - so needing some advise.

As my wife and I don't drink coffee - we tend to forget to offer it when people drop by, or if we remember, it tends to be a probably poorly made International Roast - or whatever we find lying around.

So - this weekend, I see Harvey Norman and Goody Guys offering the Map Perfecto Capsule Coffee Machine for $99 - and it appears to be the goods - and the refills are readily available at a reasonable cost.

I know coffee purists hate these machines - but for occasional use, a capsule machine I think will suit our needs the best - and considering the only hot drink at home is Hot Chocolate - the Map system seems ideal.

But - as I always do - had a look around forums, eBay etc ... and now looking at the more sophisticated machines that do Latte's, Cappuccino's etc at a press of a button - and trying to work out if that would be a better option.

So my coffee addicted cyclist friends - what do you recommend for someone on a limited budget?

A good old stove top espresso pot like Mamma used to use. Those new fangled machines are too much hassle for me.

+1 this is what I was going to say for cheap and cheerful - more Euro pro and better than plungers. I used mine camping on the weekend but it's been put to good use when my main machine  (Saeco Via Venzia) is at the service shop.

Be aware when it says 6 ot 8 cups it means espressso shots so usually works well to pour a shot, add some boiling water and then milk (via the microwave) to taste.

Or you could just BTFU and start drinking coffee... all the pros drink espresso.

Didn't know about these espresso pot 's - sounds interesting - will look into it more.

But - think the laziness and gadget lover in me will still lean towards a capsule system :-)

When out I drink cappuccino.
(Found the spelling on Wiki where info on many types of coffee drinks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_coffee_beverages)

At home I use a coffee plunger. Cheaper than the machine and buying capsules -- you refer to your budget. Can buy quality ground coffee and keep in the fridge. Small quantity because it can deteriorate. Work out how many spoons of coffee per litres / cups of water for medium and strong coffee. I add one extra cup of water 'for the pot' where the coffee grinds stay. Keep the notes with the plunger -- helpful if you do not make coffee often.

Keep coffee in a fridge or freezer and its dead, gone, finito, kaputt etc.

Keep at room temperature in a dark dry place for best results.
